“Excellent service and cleanliness”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2009

We spent Easter at this wonderfully clean hotel with outstanding service. I wanted a hotel room with views of the sea and forgot to request this .Luckily all rooms in the newer part of the hotel linked by corridor have a sea view. The room was not large but everything was there , flat screen tv and good wardrobe space , small balcony with great views of the water below. Plentiful hot water in the shower. Second chamber maid service in the evening Luckily we made a reservation in the restaurant as we arrived on Easter Friday .The menu is limited but the service was excellent despite being completely booked . I feel the menu would have been pricey for a family and we ate elsewhere for the rest of our stay . Breakfast was adequate. In fact there were scrambled eggs and bacon to be had but I never managed to obtain any as they were either gone or not out yet .Why do I want a cooked breakfast on holiday when I don't at home .?The pool and sea access was not open while we were there and a lounger by the pool would have cost fifteen euros a day had they been open . Trieste was but a short drive away and the receptionist recommended a great multi storey car park which was reasonable and close to the sights .(Finding the payment machine was a nightmare for locals and tourists alike)We also visited Aquila and Grado a pleasant drive from the hotel and so well worth seeing .Would I visit this hotel again ,yes in certain circumstances. The reception staff were all excellent . Lovely views of the water but pricey for a family and not a lot of choice on the menu .

Stayed at this hotel in October 2008.

A very nice hotel, a 5 minute drive out of Trieste. If you want to be in the centre of the town this is not for you, but suited us for a couple of nights. Nice restaurant at the hotel, but a little quiet, (it was October I guess).

Superb views over the bay of Trieste. Located on the busy coast road, but could not hear the road from the rooms or hotel terraces.

Would visit again, but a car is required (in my opinion).

I stayed at this hotel in late July. The setting on the coast of the Bay of Trieste, the grounds as well as the hotel itself are beautiful. The ambience is peaceful, with well decorated rooms and good balcony or patio privacy.

It is clearly on the very edge of Trieste. I found that getting downtown Trieste is around a 21euro taxi ride. However a nearby bus goes downtown at 10 minute intervals for 1 euro. The tickets must be bought at the hotel or at downtown Trieste newspaper and cigar stores. Staff was helpful in giving me directions for using the bus and returning on it.

The hotels restaurants have stunning terrace seating. The food was good, but I found the menu a bit limited for dinner. Breakfast was included and quite adequate. There are a few restaurants within walking distance if you saunter toward the Miramar Castle of Maximilian and Charlotte, which is only a 10 minute walk itself and time well spent.

Staff at the hotel are quite anxious to please and friendly and warm.

  • Liked — Very European. Beautiful setting; water, flora and fauna. Committed staff.Ambience.
  • Disliked — Restaurants were good, but need a little more variety on the menu. No souvenier & personal needs shop.

Now this one is difficult ... - start with best feature - which is view from restaurant terrace to sea ... great ! .. now i start to struggle ...

We booked "Suite" with 2 sepearte rooms - those are in a seperate building opposite street of Hotel - 70 ties style ... - you enter through a dark corridor with an awfull stale mouldy smell - like the iterior in an unused sailing boat lying in harbour for a long time if you get my drift... every time one gets in it hit`s you ...

Room was strange ... again great view overlooking sea - but master bedroom dark and 2 * interior max ... - bathroom very tired to say the least.... -

"Beach" .. not really ... on their wbesite they talk about a private beach .. - well it is a seperated area within a public acsess beach - which you then have to pay for your loungers (15 Euros/bed) .. - the "Pool" belongs to a different public beach where again you do not have to pay an enterance fee - but beds cost extra and you can not switch from one place to the other one without "loosing" the bed ...

Food in Hotel restaurant OK - but just about OK ... nothing special - website promised Gourmet expirience .. i beg to differ ...

2nd night had good dinner at a restaurant "Il principe Metternich" near Miramare castle this was very good indeed and had loveley setting near marina..

For 2 nights we were paying 850 Euros incl. 1 Dinner .. so overall an expensive stay for what we got - would clearly not go again for that money ..

We stayed at the hotel for two nights during a road trip through Northern Italy. Since we had a car, the location outside the city center was not a problem, and even welcomed. The hotel, perched on the cliff, is rather impressive. The trail down to the sea is well maintained, and if you follow it further, will take you straight to Maximillam's Castle.

The room, while clean, was extremely small. I would definitely request a larger room if I stayed there again. The staff was friendly, but not entirely useful, when it came to tourist assistance, such as maps or directions. Breakfast was pleasant, with the spectacular view, and plenty of food on the buffet.

If you're looking for a nice hotel, but a bit out of town, this is it.

I booked this hotel based on some other recommendations, but was sorely disapointed in what we actually experienced. First of all, it was outside the city center, and we had to take a taxi for 15 Euro to the city center for dinner. The hotel itself was beautiful, from the terrace to the opulent bar and restaurant. However the room was small and very unremarkable. The bathroom was very clean, and the view from the balcony was spectacular. However, I regret booking a balcony room since we were only there one night. I was misunderstood about this hotel and would definitely stay somewhere more central next time.

Our family of 4 (me, husband, 11 yr old and 9 yr old) stayed with another family at the Hotel Riviera e Maximilian at the end of July. The hotel is situated on the side of a fairly steep descent down to the Adriatic Sea, and as a result, the views are wonderful. Dining on their terrace was a sublime pleasure, and the food was fabulous. Service was excellent. Our kids loved the novelty of riding the tiny elevator up and down to the sea. There is a pool (and hotel guests may use it free), but you have to walk down to the water and toward the town of Grignano to find it. Our only complaint is only a faint whine: we ended up with a suite, but not the one we'd asked for. It was really fine (#101) - we still had 2 bedrooms sharing a bath, but our kids had the ocean view. The suites in the newer end of the building are much nicer, with balcony and murphy bed in the main room. The little town of Grignano - just a 10 minute walk away - is delightful. It has 2 very good restaurants by the docks (one with trees growing through the dining room and out the roof).
