“Lovely room with an amazing view.”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

On opening the curtains of our lovely room on the second floor, we were greeted with the most amazing view of mountains, valleys, tiny villages, farms and winding roads. We enjoyed a great continental breakfast each morning, including five choices of cake...it doesn't get better than that.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Joli in San Marino. I had read the reviews and they were pretty mixed so I was unsure of what to expect. This is what I found
Great location: at the base of the walled city so an easy walk to everything.
Great staff: most spoke "very well English" and all certainly made the effort to understand and be helpful.
Dated rooms: The rooms are a bit dated, but clean and comfortable, and the views from them make up for older bedspreads.
Breakfast: typical italian
In general San Marino was a welcome change from Venice. Cool mountain air, no humidity and a lot less tourists. We stayed for 2 nights which was about perfect as there is not much to do other then visit the 3 towers and shop, shop and shop

We stayed here for just one night during a long trip through Italy. This is only a tree star hotel, so rooms are not spacious. We booked a suite (one of the two they have), but this wasn't roomy either. Bathroom is nice, with marble tiles. All in all, I do believe the hotel needs a renovation and refurbishment. It has two restaurants but only the one where breakfast is served was open. So we had dinner in a restaurant in the neighbourhood.
The restaurant where you have breakfast is small, crowded and dim. The hotel has no parking but there is a public parking nearby. The staff at the hotel is extremely nice. The lady at the front desk and the staff in the main restaurant, they all were kind, friendly and helpful and also nice to our baby. San Marino is a nice walled citadel, worth visiting.

San Marino is an amazing country/town and Hotel Joli was a good place to explore it from. It’s located outside the old city walls but close enough to walk to the main part of town. We traveled with friends and had rooms 201 (queen and bunk bed w/small balcony) and rooms 112 and 111 (single in 112 and queen w/twin in 111 and large balcony). Weird that the family who booked and checked in after us got the true family quad while we were given the two separate rooms. The internet worked near the center of the hotel, not in the rooms we had at the end of the hall. The staff was accommodating and nice, even when we checked in after 10PM. The breakfast was ample and filling (meats, cheese, made to order coffee, pastries, etc) and the parking was nearby in lot 2B where we left the car for the day for only 4Euro total. From the hotel, we walked up to the main part of town and to the two towers/forts that offered amazing views of the countryside. San Marino was breathtaking and better than expected because not much was found about this town in guidebooks. We got our passports stamped and mailed postcards from there. Very kid-friendly and unique town, and the hotel, while a bit dated and didn't look like the website photos at all, was a good place to base ourselves.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view and near the center gets best internet connection.

We arrived quite late in a car and the hotel was easy to find. Just keep driving up to San Marino and you will eventually find the sign that points to it.

Parking was subsidized so it cost 4 Euros to park per day rather than 8 Euros. The car park is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel, so all is good for drivers.

The room furnishing is of good quality. The windows are top-end. Not only are they double-glazed and manufactured to German standards (ie 2 ways of opening it), they were also fly-screen and light-shield all-in-one. In addition, all the windows of the room, including the one in the fully-functioning bathroom, have a fantastic panaromic view of the hills and towns below San Marino. So in the evening it is beautiful to watch the lights, and in the morning you would think you are looking at Italy from a plane high above. The balcony looks good from the inside, however if you sit outside in the very nice sofa you are a little too short to actually see anything, instead you will be looking at 3 chimneys and the rooftop of the houses next door.

The good thing is, on the same floor, I found a hug guest balcony and it had deck chairs and from there you would get a great view of the San Marino Castle. So if you do not have a room with a view, or do not like your own balcony, do not despair!

TV channels were strictly Italian.

Breakfast area was a bit tired-looking in the lower ground floor. Breakfast consisted of the normal continental plus a series of cakes. There were at least 6 different cakes to choose from! I preferred to stick to the continental choice of simple cappucino, rolls or croissants and cold meat and a small tub of yoghurt. It was nothing to shout about but I find this is quite a standard breakfast in Italy/San Marino.

Internet was a pain. WIFI was free but I could hardly connect! I got "limited connections" most of the times and spoke to the reception, who promised it would be fixed but it idid not happen. Even though there was apparently a different connection for each floor, I found the best was just to go downstairs to the lounge and connect from there. There was also a free desktop for guests in the lounge.

The hotel is an easy 5 minute walk to the gate into the historic centre of San Marino.

Room Tip: Ask for room that faces the hills, not the town

Nice little, make that very little hotel. But it is clean and cozy and provides everything you need. Minds part about the breakfast provided but all in all it is a nice place.

This is the small family hotel in the heart of San Marino. We got the most comfortable room with views of the city, and a large terrace. The room is a clean, and a staff is excellent. When we was there the weather was a cold, and heating is insufficient. The thermostat is only ornament. The breakfast was a few, but we know, that only two rooms was a reserved.
