“"Charming Stay"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

I liked this hotel very much. It's location is perfect. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed breakfast a lot. The room is a little small, but it's convenient and well kept. After all, once in San Marino, you won't wish to stay in the hotel room for too long. It's a beautiful city! I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor have fantastic views!

This hotel could not be better located, with absolutely stunning views from both directions of my corner room. Very friendly and welcoming staff and a good in-house restaurant (as the name would suggest). I was there in October when the city was completely deserted but the weather fantastic, I highly recommend visiting at this time of year.

Location is my first concern. Hotel Cesare has the best location in San Marino, a couple steps from the parking (at 600 meters high that's a good thing!), right on the last steps from the castles. It also has a great restaurant. I will be back.

Room Tip: On the top floor there's a great view.

The rooms were not good and neither was the breakfast. The staff was nice though. This is an average hotel in a great location. I really like San Marino, but I wish there were better accommodation choices.

THIS is a four star hotel? THIS is the best San Marino has to offer? If true, stay elsewhere & visit San Marino for the day just to say you've done it!

I did not book the standard room because the superior room would "boast breathtaking views over the ancient village and the Tower of San Marino" per their web site. Our "view" was of the freak show across the street--a "museum" of such things as an effigy of the world's fattest man. The room was microscopic! The only place for a luggage rack was next to the bathroom door and the suitcase blocked the doorway by half. We had to step out of the way of each other as two people cannot maneuver around the bed at the same time. The light around the desk was florescent and a faulty ballast flashed like a bad neon sign. The solution of the hotel? Keep it turned off. The elevator *bings* were crystal clear in our room. The next door room must also be small because they stored a baby stroller & an umbrella in the hall in front of our room. We could hear their TV quite clearly as well as rustling in their cupboard. (There is no real closet.) Conversations of those waiting for the elevator are easily overheard. Noise from the street was as sharp as if we had a window open, which we wanted to do because the room was so hot and humid. The system is either on A/C or heat. Because it was October and technically autumn, it was impossible to adequately cool the room because it was raining. There is no fan in the bathroom so humidity builds up but to open the curtain and the window at the end of the tub would expose you to the street. Although I have had a home with half shower screens before & never had a problem, neither I nor my spouse could shower without water soaking the floor & the bath mat. We were told the bath had a jacuzzi, so this was a great room. I have a far nicer jacuzzi at home & never asked for or wanted one in my hotel room--just some space, quiet, pleasant surroundings and a good bed and shower. Unfortunately, Hotel Cesare failed in all of these.

The lady who operates the breakfast room is rather dour but the room was large, well lit and had a decent breakfast. THe sweet girl who checked us in was faced with the thankless task of checking us into a tiny room with no view, no A/C, no light and no alternative. She was lovely and I appreciate her kindness as I was not feeling well; she brought me tea. I thank her and see her as the best part of the hotel. To her credit, she changed the bill to a standard room rate however, I am very curious as to whether this could possibly be considered deluxe. If room 301 is deluxe, what must a standard room be???

Now to San Marino-- the shops were bizarre. Although the ancient town is in a beautiful setting, it is a pity the shops sell incredibly vulgar merchandize, out for all to see. Bottles shaped like the male anatomy and bottles with labels with photos even Playboy wouldn't print. Full beaver shots. It cheapens the town, along with all the fake Uzis, AK 47s and various "guns" that look absolutely real. The other 13 nights of our trip were amazing and charming and two other rave reviews (in a GOOD way) are also posted.

Room Tip: Whatever you do, do NOT get room 301!!!

The desk clerk at the hotel was extremely pleasant and welcoming when we "walked in" to find a room. The view as "overwhelming" as she promised. Dinner in the restaurant was a bit disappointing, as my pork was grilled til it was dry (I watched from where I sat!) but the service was good. Breakfast was generous and offered a lot of variety. The hotel's location at the top of the city made it easy to reach the multitude of shops selling every kind of "glitz" you can imagine.

The hotel located in the old city and has good location. The price was good, available free wireless internet was also good, the atmosphere was nice, giving you the feeling of authentic place. The room was very small, the tv located near the roof and was bit difficult to use since it was too high. Also noise from the corridor and nearby rooms was bit disturbing. However, in general it was very nice (especially if you don’t plan to spend too much time in the room).
