Owner description: Torture Museum of San Marino: "A journey through human cruelty" Few phenomenons kept their essence intact through time as the subject of this exhibit. From the Jock’s Mare or Skull Splitter to the shock treatment or psychiatric drugs, there is always been a long series of new instruments, so it is hard to talk about progress or evolution. Through this appalling journey into the machines used to cause death, public mockery and pain, the exhibit shows horrors that our conscience has repressed but that had been part of human coexistence for many centuries instead. Famous tortures that make us shiver but demonstrate how men applied as much creativity into the field of technology and into finding new ways to inflict pain as into arts and culture. The purpose of the exhibit is practicing our memory, documenting the aberrations of intolerance and zealotry which men achieved in their clear headed delirium to intentionally provoke harm and death.

San Marino itself was amazing so I wouldn't waste my time there inside at the torture museum. There were some interesting and depressing torture devices, the explanations were informative, and the lady selling the tickets was very friendly. But unless you really care about torture I wouldn't really bother.

Well worth a visit. Fascinating to see but pleased I did not live in those times (or did I?). The exhibits are well set out with good explanations.

The museum advertises it's instruments of torture, but that is only a small portion of the museum. The rest are wax figures of famous Italian and other heros. Could be better, but a nice change from archeology museums, etc.

Even if you are visiting this miniscule country for only a few hours, don't miss this museum. It has an impressive collection of medieval torture machines, such as iron maidens and finger-crushing machines. The long and sad history of torture is shown sistematically and in detail. Not suitable for young children, though.

Not much to comment or not extreme wish give longer comment. Cruel and not possible finish visiting all... Position just after enters castle part of the city at the right side of the first little square.
I find difficult rank it at all, but I will give some criteria for it.
1. as idea has such a museum: rank it 5. It's absolutely very unique idea and never sees in the other country.
2. Advertising our side I find as low profile: rank it 3. It looks very horror able.
3. Position at the city: rank it 3.
4. Attention this place gives to you; rank it 4. Will enter in memory and keep it there longer and for a wile not positive feeling.
Personally never will visit gain...
