Grand Hotel San Marino

When travelling, I have expectation. I dream. That is not the less important either a less pleasant part of my trip. The hotel could hardly meet a single dream or fulfill a part of my expectations excepting the valley view from the mountain of san-marino and welcoming staff.
The profits.
You can drive directly to the entrance of the hotel (driving to the top is restricted).
Travelling with small kids, we needed a little more attention and we received that, thank you!
The view from the top of the hill (750 m high, 20 min walk from hotel) was absolutely brilliant.
The concerns.
Old, noisy, uncomfortable, bad breakfast.
Parking is terrible and costs 16 euro/day. Garage appears to be a small underground area with only 4 slots for higher cars. No wonder they were occupied. The rest 10 places are the lift parking for smaller cars only.
You drive in, they lift you up ;) we were concerned if they will check if we fitted there.. the garage is dirty and full of garbadge. We drove out back to the street.
Wouldn't call it a nice place or sufficient garage for the whole group of the hotels.
You can park outside in the street behind the hotel if you are lucky to find a place. Contact the reception to get a 4Euro-full day card to be displayed in the car.
The room is not very large or small, our superior double accommodated 1 queen bed + 1 baby cot (be careful, what they offer is not very safe for kids, ours has injured a finger as the bed was probably broken!)+1 table&chair. Everything is old, that's true. To get a stable wifi connection dance step after step around your room.
we stayed one hot night. Unfortunately. The A/C did not work properly. On check-in, we turned it on and that resulted in very loud noise. Reported. On arrival we found that part of system was removed so we could not manage the air blowing direction anymore..we were also advised not to put the fan on it's highest speed. Whatever we did has not helped to cool down the room. Thank God it started to rain late night and that brought us some relief.
Do not expect a positive experience during your breakfast. Cereals, one sort of cheese&Ham each, bread and water/sugar drink they will call juice. Cold boiled eggs.
Crowds of people walking along the main street will not let you feel lonely. The hotel sits on this main street. If you were lucky to get a scenic view room, you will be facing this main street. That means, whether you want it or not, you'll be listening to the city noise all the night. Cars drive just next to you, drive very loud. The bar is just down there next to you. There was a lady singing all night long...not really singing...whatever. we disliked it. So if you want a balcony with view, you'll be on a loud side. And if you open your windows as your A/C does not cool you..
Not worth it. We should have choosen a top hill hotel and not to be afraid of walking a little from parking if we could find any..

Pluses: Perfect location. Big balcony with fantastic view (but just from the second floor and up!). Rather big room. A lot of parking places on the street near hotel for 4 euros per night. The breakfast was poor, but with ham, cheese and eggs.
Professional and helpful staff in the morning of check-out (10.07.13)

Minuses: The room was old and shabby and totally didn't match the fotos on the booking site. We read in the reviews and in the discription of the hotel that it was renovated last autumn (2012), and the pictures shows good furniture and wooden floors but in fact everything in the room was very old and terrible carpet floor... The bathroom was also very old with dirty in the corners. The staff during check-in was unfriendly. During booking it was writing that the type of our room includes free bathrobes and sleepers, but there wasn't any and the managers at the reception didn't want to solve this problem. The breakfast was poor, but with ham, cheese and eggs.

Room Tip: It should be with balcony and not on the first floor. Otherwise it will face to the wall and it is v...

Arrived only to find a mix up in the booking date (not their fault). They (Gabriella) bent over backwards to accommodate us and were very helpful (parking, where to eat, what to see, etc.). The rooms were quite small but clean and well appointed (our original booking was for larger rooms). Everything we requested was done promptly and with a genuine smile. We had a lovely dinner at the restaurant (old style - large tables of 8, waiters for every table, etc.). Food was delicious and the menu was attractively priced. Perfect location for visiting the old city.

We stayed in the hotel for one night only and felt sorry about one thing - there was one night only. This amazing place (San Marino) worth spending several days to discover.
The hotel itself is very nice, but balcony views are simply breathtaking. We absolutely loved everything, including the dinner in the hotel's restaurant.

This hotel is sumptuous. We had the nice suite which was splendid overviewing the mountains. The view was superb. The room was spacious and well decorated. The location of the hotel is central: you can walk to the Museums and of course nice restaurants around.

Hotel: good position with nice views. Parking can be arranged with the hotel - we paid 4Eur/day for parking spot right infront of the hotel.

Rooms: Clean, Large ...big comfortable bed. Lights were a bit fun to figure out how they work :)
It seemed renovated not long ago. TV - forgot to check if they had "other language" channels.

Bathroom: was like new ... and large. Rain shower only. All clean and well arranged.

Staff: reception or breakfast staff was very nice and polite...so nothing to complain about.

Good value for a good price ... simple 4* hotel, but recommending if you are considering.
Did not have that wow effect, that would give it rating 5...

We booked the luxury suite, 2 rooms with a king bed. It was our first trip abroad and I'm afraid we looked like stupid americans. We could not figure out the thermostat. We were so warm the first night, we slept at the foot of the bed so we'd have some breeze from the window.
The confused maid spoke through an interpreter to see if she should continue to make the bed upside down. How embarassing! The cord in the shower that the US uses as a clothes line, was their ALARM. Whoops! The restaurant in the hotel was good as well but what food in Italy is bad??
