Guaita, Cesta ( Fratta ) and the Montale Tower are the three fortress, simbol of Monte Titano ( Mount Titan ), defensive bulwarks of the liberty, so sacred to the San Marino population. It is wonderful to stand in front of the fortress and imagine its invincible role over many years. After sightseeing the Guaita fortress by the narrow passage of the Passo delle Streghe (means Passage of the Witches) , we continued to the second tower of Frata or Cesta. The Cesta is located on the highest of Monte Titano's summits. A Museum of Archaic Arms to honour Saint Marinus, created in 1956, is located in this tower and showcases over 1,550 weapons dating from the Medieval Era including: sidearms, spears and lances, firearms, bows and arrows, crossbows and coats of armour. During the Crusades in the 13th century, a second tower was built on the other tip of Monte Titano to protect and strengthen the defenses of the old part of the city. The Second Tower housed the Fortification Guards Division as well as some prison cells. As with the first tower also from this is the beautiful view of the valley and to Rimini.
