“gorgeous classic hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2011

this hotel was so nice with great service, food, and setting. The pool was nice and the beach was great. The food and service was wonderful even though the food was a little pricey it was worth it. The whole experience was great and I would definitely go back if I had the chance.

Stayed at this hotel one night in September, the hotel is beautiful as is the garden, but check-in was quite slow. My room was in the annex, which was also a beautiful building, just around the corner from the Grand hotel. Very efficient ac, beautiful bathroom with excellent shower. TV with only Italian channels. Excellent breakfast. The pool area was quite small and for most of the day in the shadow. Beach was beautiful, but as many others have pointed out you had to pay approx EUR 50:-- for a chair at the third row. If you walk a bit further along the beach you will find places where they rent out chairs for EUR 4:--/day, a bit mor reasonable!

Started going here nearly 40 years ago and really so little changes over the years.
A number of the Rooms have been updates with new flooring and bathrooms but still the same old traditional wardrobes with small drawers.
The food if on half board is still great and if we did not like what was on the menu they would make something else.
The Buffet rarely changed in the evening and occasionally they ran out of things with just a shrug of the shoulder.
The beach is the best ever with the softest sand and warm seas. The beach vendors have thankfully been driven away and you can now relax without being bombarded with rubbish items.
Lunch at the beach is expensive at 30 Euros pp but they do have a cheaper choice as well. We ate at a little bar on the way to the beach each day.
The Dinners on the Terrace are great and were offered 3 times a week with a live Band each time. Very well organised and a huge selection.
The staff were generally very helpful and we will return.

We have been guests at the Grand Hotel Riminni over the last 12 years. We last visited in June 2011 and have been there on at least 10 occassions and have always found the accomodation, the food, beach and the ambiance to be superb. We generally always stay in the annexe accross the road as you still get the full use of all the main hotel facilities.

They have a private beach which is just accross the road and the spacing between sunbeds is far better than all the other hotels where they are very crowded.
The beach is kept very clean and there is a beach restaurant/cafe at your disposal.

During the main season they have outside buffets/barbeques with entertainment 2-3 times a week. These are quite spetacular and always have a vast selection of food for everyones tastes.

We always book half board. The evening meals in the main restaurant always have a starter buffet including a variety of sea foods, cold meats and lots of different salads followed by 3 further courses including a huge selection of deserts and fruit. If there is nothing on the menu that you fancy, the head waiter can arrange for something to be made of your choice.

The town of Rimini is very close to the hotel and the quaint old town of Rimini is a short bus ride away on the number 11 bus with lovely cobbled streets lots of cafes and shops set back into the old buildings. There is also a fantastic market in the old town twice a week Saturaday and Wednesday mornings.

In the opposite direction on the number 11 bus will take you to the resort of Ricionne.
which is also worh a visit but beware of pick pockets on the bus.

Not far away up in the hills you have San Marino which is tax free shopping, you need to go to the top level which is level 6 and walk down. This makes a great day out if you are bored with sun bathing.

Another area about 45 minutes drive towards Venice is another nice resort of Milano Maritima. The medievil town of Ravena is also not to far from that resort.

This hotel is NOT on the beach as their website would have you believe. They charge 75 to 100 EUROS per day to use their beach facilities. If you want internet it will be approximately 22 EUROS per day. If you want to park a car add ANOTHER 18 EUROS per day. Worst hotel ever.

Room Tip: To get the best room do not stay at this hotel.

The hotel is very clearly targetted at the high class traveller (largely from Russia), and in this it delivers. The lobby, restaurant, outdoor terrace, pool, large private gardens and most of all the rooms, all provide for a very stylish but modern ambiance. There's even a specific dress code applicable (but not really enforced).

The location great, the beach is less then 50m from the hotel with plenty of good restaurants around as well. The dedicated hotel beach area stands out from the other areas on this otherwise very crowded strip by being much more spread out and with very pretty and stylish chairs/umbrellas. They do however cost around 100 Euro per day but that includes up to four loungers.

They also have a small mini club for kids which is basically just playing in the sand and playground for a few hours, but it is free.

Another part we enjoyed about the area is a complete lack of mosquitos.

We spent 7 nights here in a very comfortable deluxe room, junior suite size, with sea and garden views. As I stepped onto our balcony on arrival our French neighbour was filming the view from his. He told me that they had arrived two days earlier and that the food, service, and beach were sublime: 'they really want to look after you here', he remarked. Like us he and his family had mezza pensione, which is strongly recommended.

The food was scrumptious: a brilliant mix of the best traditional Italian cuisine and the finesse of a Michelin star restaurant. Every a la carte dinner had buffet starters as well as buffet desserts, as much as you (as it were) could stomach. Everything was fresh: from the cubed fruit (anything you could think of and more) to the various exquisite dolci; and the food areas were spotless and the dishes were endlessly replenished. Every second, night, weather permitting, a fabulous, themed buffet dinner is served on the Grand's grand terrace.

The wine list was compendious with classy local wines while aperitifs on the terrace are a rare treat: not only is the setting one of the most gorgeous you'll ever encounter, but you'll probably never have better snacks with it: small pieces of pizza, olives, and a wonderful bowl full of pieces of parmesan. Emilia Romagna is legendary for food and the Grand is the best place to sample it. The beach was similarly well appointed, hugely efficient, and well run. It was included in the price we paid so we didn't need to worry about how much it cost per day.

The staff were (almost all) attentive and impeccably courteous. They knew our names within hours. The hotel was full and there were many children. The entire place gave off a sense of somewhere that is very elegant, family -minded, stylish. It is not cheap - how could it be - but it is undoubtedly great value for money.

We will be back because it is the kind of place where you feel that you are home the moment you step into your room. The rest is all dolce farniente.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to the Grand Hotel Rimini, welcome to charm! The Grand Hotel Rimini, the five star deluxe hotel which has always been considered as the symbol of "La Dolce Vita" on the Adriatic Riviera, is a magnificent building with more than a 100 years history. Inaugurated in 1908, a national monument since 1984, the Grand Hotel Rimini has always welcome a large number of celebrities: the tenor Caruso, the Duce Mussolini, Gorbatchev, Bush Senior, Federico Fellini and his wife Giulietta Masina, Lady Diana, Christian Barnard, Tony Blair, Sharon Stone, Albert of Monaco, Edward of Windsor and the Dalai Lama, just to mention a few. With the taking over of the Batani family in 2007, major renovation works have been immediately started following the criteria imposed by the Italian Ministery of Fine Arts and today the Grand Hotel Rimini is back to its ancient splendour, especially the mythical Liberty facade. New, precious materials such as travertine, onyx and white marbles from northern Italy beautifully combine with the renovated original parquet flooring and Venetian flooring in the ancient ballrooms, in a beautiful harmony between old and new, history and present time. The ambitious project will be completed with the setting of the famous domes that went destroyed during the terrible fire that broke out in July 1920.The Grand Hotel Rimini is defined by its guests as a "magnificent oasis of tranquility." It is surrounded by a luxuriant garden of centennial pine trees, olive trees and flowers and stands just a few steps away from the private beach of golden sand, with a kids’ swimming-pool, restaurant-bar and a wellness centre, open in summer time.At just one kilometre from the hotel, the historical centre of Rimini is the heart of luxury shopping and night life. Culture and the arts are also very well represented thanks to major international art exhibitions organized every year inside Castelsismondo, the several castles dating back to the Malatesta seigniory (1500) and extraordinary Roman remains.High oeno-gastronomy is the specialty of the house. The hotel’s ancient ball rooms are the beautiful setting to "La Dolce Vita" restaurant where the Chef Claudio Di Bernardo and his brigade are proud to welcome you. Simple, natural and wholesome qualify the chef’s strong passion for good cuisine. In summertime, dinner is served on the magnificent terrace overlooking the sea and the gardens. The atmosphere is unique: the gentle sea breeze, the excellent cuisine, the elegant orchestra playing romantic music on the backdrop of the famous Liberty facade... Just like one of the famous scenes from Amarcord by the great film-maker Federico Fellini! ... more   less
