This restaurant is one of the oldest in Ravenna and occupies a very interesting architectural space. It's huge and has some communal tables. The Ven in the title is their dialect for wine.. Huge menu, one of the specialties is piadina, a kind of panini. Well worth trying. Filled with tourists and locals alike, families with strollers. Waiters are very busy but attentive. Had a radicchio salad with hot bacon dressing and grilled sausage and potatoes. Didn't taste enough things to really evaluate their cooking. Prices reasonable and you probably don't need a reservation because its so huge. Many rooms.

The atmosphere here is very lively and fun. The food is really terrible. We went because of all the great reviews. Our potatoes were cold. The piadina is tasteless. The salad I had was actually not bad, but probably equivalent to a salad from any salad bar in the US. However, we did like the atmosphere, which is bright and cheery in a small town with such a small population.

We stumbled upon Ca de Ven by accident. Whilst walking around Ravenna, my wife spotted the frescoed ceiling and when we turned the corner, we saw it was a restaurant.

The interior is extremely interesting and probably worth a visit, just to gaze at its quirky, historic charm. We were seated on a kind of trestle table, sharing it with two other diners on an Italian tour. The menu is quite large and varied but the wine list we were given, only had locally produced wines, which threw up some interesting choices.

I began with a baked squacquerone cheese “pudding”, which was quite delicious. The menu said it was served with crispy prosciutto. Prosciutto it was...crispy it certainly wasn't. An attempt had been made to cook it but had been halted at the “soggy” stage. Didn't taste too bad though.

My wife had the tagliatelle with a rabbit and porcini ragu, which she said was very good. I had the pici with a tomato and guanciale sauce, again very good. The cheese offered was the dusty, dried version, that comes in cardboard cartons. Providing some freshly grated Parmesan or Grana Padano would have lifted the pasta courses immensely.

The local Sangiovese we had was excellent, as was the coffee and grappa to follow.

Service was a little slip-shod, (well our waiter was at least). However, the waitress who was looking after a tour party table was working very hard; so if you get her, you're in luck.

I wouldn't say that Ca de Ven was a gourmet destination but it certainly wasn't bad. The location alone merits a visit and a bowl of pasta, (minus “cheese”).

I liked the food, wine and service at Ca' de Ven so much the first night that I went back for a second dinner. However, the restaurant was more crowded the second night, and the service was poor - it took a long time for my food to come, and my secondi was almost forgotten. However, it is an excellent place to have regional (and delicious) dishes!

Really good value meal. The restaurant is very big and runs really well with all the staff covering the floor well. The food was excellent and the wine choice from the waiter was really lovely and went really well with the food. The venue has a very beautiful interior.
