“Tastefully Restored”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

We did the audio tour which was worth it for the explanations of the different patterns in the various rooms.
Finish off by watching the video in the room near the entrance which gives a very good impression of what the house may have looked like when it was built and also what the full mosaics would have looked like originally

“A great primer -- start here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2012

We did not expect this to be much, and saw it late in the visit -- but it would have been a great introduction and we recommend you whisk through early in your visit. It was a well-planned, well-explained, well-laid out "museum" of mosaics. Definitely helped us understand what we were looking at elsewhere and was worth absorbing some of the technical detail before snapping those photos.

“Nice to see mosaics on the floor!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2012

Worth a visit, this recently uncovered and restored building includes floor mosaics from the end of the 4th century A.D, and you can walk around imagining what it felt like to be entertained in an ancient palace. 4 euro to get in here, and I thought it not bad at all.

There is a walkway over the floor which, sadly, is often made of black rubber rather than glass, which would have surely made more sense and giving you the sensation of almost walking on the floor itself. But other than that, wonderful. In particular the mosaic of the "So-called Good Shepherd" (Photo). Who wouldn't want to meet him!

“Go for the Dance of the Four Seasons, but enjoy it all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2012

The Domus features a dozen or so rooms with "stone carpets" -- mosaic floors discovered during a fairly recent excavation. The dance of the four seasons, in particular, is captivating, but all the displays are fascinating. This provides a particularly pleasant break from the highly decorated religious art found in the World Heritage sites. Just one more good reason to visit Ravenna.

“More beautiful mosaics!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2012

Ravenna is the city of beautiful mosaics. In addition to this place, the 2 other major mosaic sites are the Basilica di San Vitale and the Mausoleum di Galia Placidia. All are beautiful and well worth a visit.
