We stayed here a year ago and had forgotten about it being overpriced and with bad wifi.

However good rooms, good location but terrible wifi and bad attitude. Upon checkin with Raphaela we were told to get the wifi you simply log in with name and room number. So when that didn’t work we go back to reception and Raphaela now tells us we need a code. She provides this without an apology or smile.

The wifi we quickly remember is hit and miss and poor in quality. So poor you can’t use it for phone calls. Each of the other hotels we used over the previous week, two, three and four stars all had better wifi. And those previous mentioned hotels all have free breakfast. So why no free breakfast at Grande Alberto Roma?

When heading out for dinner to a favourite restaurant we asked for a map directions. Our ‘friend’ Raphaela upon realising we were not going to eat in became more unfriendly and just passed a map to us without helping with directions.

We mentioned in making the booking direct to the hotel and then again when checking in that we had stayed exactly a year before and that we are celebrating our wedding anniversary. We were completely wasting our breath thinking that it may have meant a better room.

Checkout was disorganised and we were charged at checkout and then I had to say we had already paid. Mario (who checked us out) blamed Raphaela for the way she had done the ‘paperwork’ at check in. We are going to be looking closely at credit card bills.

We have written a big note to ourselves NOT to ever stay there again.

A very enjoyable two nights at the Grand Albergo Roma. Place has everything you would want. Super location and very well kept. But it got a bit loud both outside and within- could just be rude people. It's a Business Hotel so while efficient it's a bit pricy. After all it's Piacenza and not Milano!

Of the three hotels we used during our trip to Emilia Romagna - this was the overall best - by some margin. The two primary reasons being its perfect situation and the fact that it has undergone a recent - and very well carried out - renovation.

Both of our other hotels had good locations but none could match the Grande Albergo Roma when it came to amenities. The attached restaurant was of a very high standard, (we used it twice), which was a blessing as quite a few restaurants in Piacenza were closed for the holidays. The rooftop bar was excellent in every respect. The views from the bar/breakfast room were impressive, the drinks well made and the snacks provided with the drinks were of an extremely high quality. If not the best - certainly matching the best - that we were provided with, during our trip.

Breakfast was taken in the same rooftop location as the bar, with the same beautiful views. The breakfast buffet itself was of above average standard for Italy, with only the hot breakfast items letting things down a little. Apart from the coffee that is, which was as poor as most Italian hotels tend to be. I’m talking coffee that was requested - not stuff from a machine. Speaking of machines, perhaps Inchotels group should take note of the solution provided by our hotel in Parma and install one of the new Nespresso “pod” machines. I forgave that hotel a multitude of sins, because of the ability to get excellent coffee every morning.

The hotel’s renovation was evident in the room itself, being very well decorated and wanting for nothing. As daytime temperatures were in the low thirty degree range, the quiet but efficient air-conditioning was very welcome.

In fact the only thing that was slightly puzzling was the “Only three devices” proviso for the free, (and speedy), wi-fi. It didn’t bother my wife and I too much, as we only had three devices but why that rule? The wi-fi signal was of decent strength and did not require the persistent “logging-on” every day, that we experienced in other hotels.

Piacenza isn’t exactly overflowing with hotels, so it wouldn’t have come as a surprise to find this hotel “resting on its laurels”. It certainly doesn’t and it’s to the hotel’s credit that it delivers such a quality experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Provided that is, you don’t have more than three devices you wish to attach to the hotel wi-fi and you don’t mind hotel coffee.

Two-bedroom suite in August for €200 in a very well and recently renovated 4-star hotel with own parking, and a lovely rooftop bar/restaurant. What more could a family of 4 ask for?! I was very impressed by our suite and its facilities. Great central location, a stone’s throw from the central cathedral, and helpful front desk.

The hotel was tricky to locate - our sat nav had some difficulty given it was in the middle of the city and many closed streets. However absolutely worth it. We booked via expedia and got an excellent deal at this 4 star hotel.
The hotel is as its name suggests quite grand. The reception staff was excellent and spoke English well. The rooms have recently been renovated and the room we had was really lovely. All facilities were perfect - from the bed, bathroom and other amenities. No view from the bedroom, overlooking into a storage, rubbish bin area - but this was not an issue. Car parking was a few metres away. The hotel has a restaurant and the meals were excellent. Breakfast was included in price and held in the dining room - great atmosphere and many choices.
Overall, the services and facilities of this hotel were excellent.

Room tip: We had a room on the fourth floor.. Air-conditioning worked exceptionally well and was very quiet.
