Pepen is Parma's favourite place for a quick bite. When all the locals go to a place to eat, you know it's good. When you're talking about Parma, known to be the heart-beat of gastronomy in Italy, then it is truly unmissable.
It is tucked away behind a corner off Piazza Garibaldi, possibly one of the most picturesque Plazas of Emilia Romagna.
At Pepen's you are spoilt for choice. You can have everything from classics like tramezzini and panini, to small bites of food that you'd usually only see in restaurants, like Arancini (fried rice balls coated with breadcrumbs, my fav are the ones with meat and cheese).
Like with every culinary experience is the one that encompasses the essence of the local produce, and Parma offers some of the best pesto di cavallo (minced horse meat, like tartare, which might be a bit strange to read about, but absolutely divine to taste!).
Wash it down with a beer, or enjoy a glass of red wine with it.
The prices are fair, and the best thing about it is the fast service - it is basically used mroe as a take-away service than anything else, and is quite simply the best one around.
