“Wow! Don't miss this restaurant.”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

We ate at Al Tramezzo because of the wonderful reviews on TripAdvisor. Let me now add mine to the list. This is a special restaurant which you shouldn't miss if you're in the area.

When we arrived at 7:55 PM, the restaurant was empty, so we were a little concerned. But fear not -- the restaurant started to fill shortly afterward. Filippo was our waiter, who is also the son of the owner. He speaks excellent English and was the consummate host. He explained everything and helped us with ordering.

We started with a delicious bottle of Falanghina white wine, followed by an amuse bouche from the chef, of shrimp in a sauce, that was outstanding. Then we had grilled octopus in a cream of potato with black truffle, which was the VERY BEST octopus we've ever had. Now that's a pretty great way to start a meal. We followed it with a ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta, topped with butter and parmesan cheese -- good, but not great. Lastly we shared a turbot fish with sliced potatoes, that was really delicious.

To end the meal, Filippo brought out a few complimentary pastries and a strange high alcohol herb elixir. The pastries were great and the elixir strong and strange.

All in all, it was one of the best meals we've ever had. So good that we're bringing friends back in a couple of days. To top it off, the cost was only €79.50, which included a bottle of wine. I wish we could move this restaurant closer to home.

The restaurant is off the beaten path, in a residential neighborhood, with easy parking on the street. Make sure you visit this wonderful place.

“great food ... and prices!”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

It is not the restaurant for your daily lunch or dinner. Better if someone will offer it to you.
Disregarding the price, the food is delicious, both seafood and meat courses. Also the "creativity" in composing the plates worth to be seen. Waiter (one is the owner) very professional, also in suggesting the proper wine. If you want to impress someone, this is a good choice

“If fine dining in Parma is what your looking for, This is a must.”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

Went multiple times to Al Tramezzo and I have to say that it was always an outstanding experience.
If your budget allows it, the fish tasting menu is the way to go. You will get to try the best the chef has to offer.

If not, definitely try the octopus and the tagliolino with shrimp, mango and passion fruit. I know it sounds weird, but they have mastered the flavors in this dish to ensure perfect balance, it will not dissappoint guaranteed.

Overall the experience is nothing but spectacular. Service is top notch. If been to many high end restaurants in New York, London, and many other cities and the experience here has nothing to envy to any of these. If you ever have any issues Hugo (Restaurant owner) will make sure to make it right and will never let you leave there dissappointed. Thanks a lot Hugo for your service, I really appreciate everything you did for us.

This is a more quaint place and not as trendy, so if you r looking for a place to see and be seen it might not be the right place, but if you are looking for some of the finest food I have tried and a romantic environment (which I didnt get to experience since i went with co-workers, but will definitely take my wife next time), then I would say you have to go.

“Little gem in Parma”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

The food we had for lunch here was simply amazing. I've had some really good italian food living in New York for the better part of the last decade but this place was just one step above everything else. The host was really top notch explaining each item in detail and suggesting somethings to try out as well. Make sure you get some of digestive elixir before you head out. Would definitely go back here again.

“Did we visit on an off-night??”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

We dined at Al Tramezzo on a Tuesday night in late June. We had high expectations for this restaurant given its reputation and accolades (i.e., a Michelin star). My wife and I are willing to spend a lot for a fine meal when it seems like the taste will be worth the price, but we're having a hard time classifying this dinning experience as being anything too special. The food and service were average, especially given the price (and Michelin star).

The evening started off very nicely. The restaurant was aware that we were celebrating a special event (I mentioned it when making reservations), so when we arrived, our table was decorated thoughtfully. The decoration was a very nice, hospitable touch - we really appreciated the gesture. Unfortunately, from there I'm not sure that the meal was worth the price (just over 200 euros for a bottle of wine, antipasti, primi, dolci, e digestivi). In general, we've had many meals that were either more or less expensive and simply put, we were much more satisfied with those meals.

Neither of us ordered the tasting menu, but one of us ordered from the seafood menu and the other ordered from the non-seafood menu, so that we could experience a range of their offerings. The sauce for the "Caldo-freddo di Cereali e Legumi con Pesci, Crostacei e salsa di Scampi" was delicious but the other dishes, including desserts, were just OK. Perhaps our expectations were too high, or maybe it was just an off-night for the restaurant.

As for the service, this too was a bit of a disappointment. While the decorating of the table was very nice, we were seated next to a table of four businessmen and it seemed fairly obvious to us that we were not a priority...however it looked like the four businessmen received prompt, helpful service. After the four businessmen departed, the quality of our service seemed to improve as we were given more attention and provided with assistance in making our selections. Everyone was very nice, and the man (who was maybe the owner) even seemed to warm to us (possibly after realizing that we spoke more Italian than he thought), but the service could have been more attentive and helpful at times.

In all, we're not sure that we'd return to Al Tramezzo. There are too many other great options in/near Parma. We're glad to have tried it, but we likely won't be back.
