“Best local bolognese dining experience, without the tourist $$$”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

Tucked away, yet a very short distance from Piazza Maggiore in a direction most tourists don't walk, is this hidden gem of a resto frequented mostly by locals. Several kinds of fresh pasta, family run, amazing! I had prosciutto with figs - I realized in all my experience I had never had juicy, ripe figs, only dried. Now think of them surrounding a plate of paper thin prosciutto di Parma - yum! For my entree I had fresh made tagliatelle with mushrooms and tomatoes. They seriously bring around a basket of fresh mushrooms so you can see what you are about to eat! I was too stuffed for dessert. The wine, the sambuca after dinner, the figs and prosciutto, the pasta - wow. Take the time to find this place, it's not hard to locate and it's so worth it. If you want to sit outside, you may want to make a reservation unless you arrive before eight. By the way, the dinner scene doesn't really get underway until 8:45ish...

“Excellent! Homey and homemade!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

Loved it. Owner waited on us and suggested everything. All is homemade by his wife who is also waiting tables. We had homemade pasta, fresh salads and marscapone that, as he said, is not the best in Bologna, but the best in the universe!

“A Favorite for Pasta and Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

We dined at La Traviata three times in four days. Each time we couldn't wait to return to the warm welcome from the owners and the superb pasta made from scratch. I especially enjoyed the tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce, but you can't go wrong with the specials. The portions and balanced sauces were perfect. This is an authentic osteria that fills up at lunch and nightly with locals and tourists. It's comfortable, friendly, and serves delicious food. La Traviata will be the first restaurant we return to when we revisit Bologna.

“Great food. The BEST pasta!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

Based on a recommendation from our lovely B&B hostess, we decided to sit outside and have a long lazy lunch at La Traviata. Being our first day in Bologna, expectations for our meal were high. The food here is so incredibly good, it made us forget any and all expectations! We just sat back, relaxed and enjoyed some truly great food.

The wine recommended to us was great, one of the best drops we had during our 4 weeks across Italy. The antipasti was all delicious. But the pasta...., the pasta left me speechless. I quite literally sat there, eating bite-by-bite, not believing the phenomenal taste of the food placed in front of us.

Our only regret is that we did not make it back for a second meal before leaving Bologna. All the more reason to return!

“A gem for food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

We ate at La Traviata our first evening in Bologna. We expected good food, of course-but the food was so much better than just good! This is a lovely osteria, which captures the best of Bologna: historic setting, simple, yet so convivial, every table filled with folk clearly enjoying the great food, wine and company. In short, this is everything an osteria should be. Antonio and Manuela serve with obvious love for their craft. There were many good choices on the menu, but in the end, we followed their lead: squash blossoms to start, fried in a wonderfully light batter, fusili (made by Manuela; pasta is a specialty of the house) with a very flavorful sausage and artichoke, then perfectly cooked lamb (me) and scaloppini (spouse). A work table near us held a mountain of porcini, prosciutto and parmesan, tapped throughout the night for dinners and antipasti. Antonio was helpful in suggestions for regional wines. We emerged hours later realizing we had exactly the "foodie"experience we sought from Bologna. We already plan to return before we leave. A sincere and enthusiastic endorsement for La Traviata! This is a place we will talk about when we return home!
