We were three couples who travelled to Bologna on our way from Venice to Florence and based on its good reviews stopped for lunch at Drogheria Della Rosa. In my opinion, we made a big mistake. We ate many meals in Italy during our two weeks visit and this meal was our only disappointing one. We had outside seating which was fine, but what was not fine was the attitude of the manager (could have been owner) to us and his staff. First, he did not serve all of us what we had ordered and when we told him, his response was to take back the wrong meal and not serve anything. My friend sat at the table for the entire meal with nothing to eat. When we tried to get the managers attention, he ignored us. While we were at the restaurant, we observed the manager being very rude to his servers and in particular to a female server who looked like she was going to cry. I felt so sorry for her. The food, in my opinion was just mediocre and I will never return to this restaurant again.

super service, super food, nice wines from the house. we sat outside and the owner really cared about us, took his time, drunk a glass of wine and made us feel welcome, while the total price was really low!

Thank you Mr Gill for your review - we were not disappointed! The owner is amusingly eccentric and quite delightful company - worth a visit just for that. The staff were wonderful and in addition the food was amazing - also you get to avoid the boring feckers who need a menu before they can sit down. It was the best four hours we spent in Bologna. We sat down and were immediately given a glass of lovely prossecco followed by a plate of anti pasta. The owner then came and sat with us and gave us a choice of pasta dishes (he had me at egg plant ravioli) which were divine! I asked for a nice bottle of red wine and the staff were told to bring us 'the sangenovese' - scrumy! Perfect pork osso bucco for mains followed by some delicious local goats cheese. The waitress said he also wanted us to try a local desert (not sure what it was but it was divine as was the bottle of sweet wine left on the table for us). The bill was not itemised - just was an embarrassingly small 70 euros for the two of us, so plenty of room for a large tip. Kisses and roses on the way out (unfortunately no sexual assault - but you can't have everything!). Not that fussed on Bologna as a place but we will return for the food generally and specifically to visit this little gem! Not surprised the locals flock here.

We had one night in Bologna, and had found this place on a blog. Read some tripadvisor reviews before we went, so we had an idea about what to expect. I think that was a good thing, because it is an unusual restaurant experience - and that is what makes it so great. One of the best and most memorable dinner experiences we've had!
Everything we read was true - no menu, no prices, lots of wine and a very unspecified bill. But our reaction to all of thos varied from some of the reviewers here: we loved it.

The waiter brought us sparkling wine (no questions asked on beforehand, it just came), and the starters. Then the owner came and presented the menu verbally - and we chose. We where asked if we wanted some red wine, and a bottle was brought over to taste, and was left there as we acceptes the wine. Another couple celebrated a birthday, and the talkative owner brought glasses out for all the tables and a bottle of prosecco so we could all join in on a toast. Amazing!

We saw someone having dessert wine, and asked for the same, and we got two glasses and the bottle was brought over, and there was no extra charge for that. We had 4 courses in all, with wine and prosecco throughout, and it all cost us no more than 80 euros for the both of us! Plus, the place is so funny and peculiar, there's much to look at and talk about over dinner.

Would go again!

This is what we ate (in addition to the antipasto):

We tried the tortellini filled with two cheeses, and it was simply amazing. We also had the tagliatelle with the bolognese sauce - the pasta was very thin and delicate. But it was the tortellini that won that round. For the secondi we had two types of beef: one cooked with a red wine sauce (we think) and one braised. The braised one was perfectly prepared, deliciously rare - and we like our meat rare. We preferred that one over the red wine-sauce meat, which was more like...stewed meat.

The chocolate flarn was heavenly! The best fondant i've ever had! The mascarpone with strawberry and chocolate was also very good.

We have just had the most amazing lunch at Drogheria Della Rosa. One of the best lunches ever. Friendly service and great food. There is no written menu and no advertised price, just the recommendations of the owner. We felt very welcome in a restaurant full of locals, even though we speak no italian.
This place is a real find and a must when visiing Bologna.
