We stayed for 2 nights and will definitely check availability next time we visit Bologna. We arrived early afternoon and the house smelt wonderful, as Tiziana was baking a cake for breakfast the next morning.Tiziana is very kind and helpful, and made several excellent recommendations for restaurants. We stayed in the blue room which was very spacious and very clean. It was a nice touch to be able to use the kitchen to make tea coffee etc and have some of the cakes and biscuits when coming home in the afternoon or later in the evening.
Thank you very much.

Casa Ilaria is a classic B&B with extra benefits. Tiziana was the perfect hostess; informative and extremely helpful without being intrusive, even with our language barrier (lol). She and her daughter Christiana went out of their way to make my sister and I feel welcomed and comfortable. Even when the B&B was full we still felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was very quiet. Easy to find, within walking distance of most everything Bologna has to offer. Tiziana said we could use the kitchen to cook our own meals, which we did. The breakfast was really good, from eggs to pancakes and the usual breakfast fare, Tiziana is an excellent pastry chef. The beds were very comfortable! Even though we didn't have an en suite, we had our own bathroom, with our own key. Daily clean up service, everything was sparkling clean. We had a great view of a little courtyard.
Bottom line, if you're in Bologna, you have to give Casa Ilaria a try. If I ever get back to Bologna, you can bet this is the only place I'll stay. I felt extremely safe in the area, even at night. That was the majority of Bologna anyway.
Close: turn left from the building and about 2 blocks down on the right is THE best gelato in Bologna, trust me! Also left is a post office and 2 blocks down from that is a farmacia.

Room Tip: Since the stairs are steep (see pictures), it is best to get a room downstairs.

We are a young couple who stayed 3 nights in Casa Ilaria. When we arrived quite early on our first day in Bologna, it was not a problem to drop off our luggage a little early so that we could start to explore the city. Practically everything you will visit in Bologna is at a 5min walk from the B&B; so its location is perfect! It takes you about 15 min to walk from the central station to the B&B. We visited Firenze 1 day because it only takes you 35 minutes with the high speed train and is definitely worth seeing as well!

When we arrived we felt really welcome and the hostess provided us with a map of Bologna with must go&see's and good places for dinner (At La Montanara, the food there was really delicious!! Taghliatelli al Ragu for 8 euros!). The breakfast was included in the stay, was home made (pancakes, brioches, eggs, fresh juice, ...) and really delicious! We would recommand this place to everyone!

What a fabulous experience. Casa Ilaria is a beautiful B&B right in the heart of Bologna, a 5 minutes walk from the city center or the University of Gelato! Tiziana was a gracious and wonderful host and made me and my colleagues feel right at home. When I travel on business, I generally stay in 4 and 5 star hotels, but decided to book this location since 2 of my girlfriends had already purchased their rooms here. I will never stop recommending this place. The rooms are spacious and comfy, bathrooms modern, and there's always pastry cooking in the kitchen! I have never had a good, full night's sleep on my first night in a new country and this night was the best I slept the entire trip. I will have a difficult time staying anywhere else when I'm in Bologna.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs, the double suites have their own private bathrooms!

We stayed at Casa Ilaria for four nights and it was a great experience. Ilaria is a very nice hostess. She gave us a lot of useful tips on where to go and what to do in Bologna. The rooms are nice and clean and the breakfast is great. The house is situated in the middle of the student area of Bologna but we didn't have any problems with outside noises, so the location definitely is a huge plus!

Tiziana was an amazing hostess. She is accommodating and friendly, a tremendous help in telling us about what we could do during our stay in Bologna. Centrally located, clean rooms, quiet, homemade Jam from Sicily! It was a pleasure to stay at her B&B.

Room Tip: Check your email, Tiziana will ask for a confirmation on your arrival time.

Casa Ilaria is located in a very nice university area near piazza Verdi. We booked with them based on Tripadvisor reviews, knowing that warm and helpful service is one of the things that make a trip special, and that often B&Bs offer more personalized service than hotels. Unfortunately, we were wrong.

The B&B itself is rather charming, nicely decorated and clean, with good wifi. We had a room with an outside bathroom, which was ok.

Ilaria herself was nowhere to be seen, and maybe our experience would have been different with her there. When I made the reservation via a booking site, I requested the private parking for our car and asked for a confirmation. When I saw nothing coming I thought it was a bad sign. It was. I would also have appreciated receiving directions about how to arrive, since driving is nearly impossible in Bologna, and there is only one street that can lead you to the hotel.

A very nice man working on his laptop in the dining room helped us to rent bikes for the next morning. We were quite surprised when we had to pay 50 euros for two bikes for 4 hours, which is higher than in any other European city; however, we were very glad that he helped us find this place, because otherwise it would have been impossible. (if you plan on exploring Bologna by bike, find a hotel that offers complimentary bikes. At 130 euros (cost of Casa Ilaria + bikes) you will have a much better hotel offering free bikes, e.g. Astoria, Porta San Mamolo or Art Hotel Novecento).

Breakfast was good, although it felt like eating in someone's office while they are working behind your back (it is an open space including a dining room, office and kitchen).

We were very surprised when we were told that check-out was at 10AM. We were hoping to bike in the city and come back at midday to take a shower and check out. This was not possible because "the next check in is at 2PM", and since we were already late, we checked out immediately and left unshowered. When we came back in the afternoon to get our luggage, we asked to use the bathroom and were told that the room was already given to the next guests and that there was no other bathroom we could use. Apparently the owner goes home everytime he has to pee.

Add this to the nonworking elevator and nonworking credit card machine (we had to give all of our small cash and coins and then had trouble to refuel our car since the self-service stations open on Sunday do not give change nor accept credit cards), the experience was not a bliss. Fortunately, Bologna is a wonderful and beautiful city that makes up for any inconvenience you may experience.
