“Good Value and near the sights”
Reviewed June 28, 2007

We booked this property after reading the New York Times review of it. We had room 303 and although it was kind of quirky with a funky, beamed ceiling, it was very large with a daybed and a huge bathroom with a tub and a motorized skylight. It was immaculate and nicely decorated, with a mini bar and small safe & right off the lift. It's true there were some stairs to get to the reception desk on the second floor, but where in Italy aren't there stairs? The staff was helpful enough, and certainly not rude. We skipped breakfast as there were plenty of cafes on the street nearby, so can not comment on it. Our room was also quiet with the window (double glazed) shut. At 85 euros it was a great value & we would recommend it to anyone.

I spent 2 nights with my girlfriend in the Residence delle Drapperie, the hotel's newly renovated apartment building in the northern part of town, at Via Galliera 48. While the location certainly isn't as ideal as that of the hotel (it's about a 10-15 walk to Piazza Maggiore), we had the luxury of staying in an apartment/flat as opposed to a boxed in hotel room. For 55 euro/night, we paid less than half of what any other hotel on our trip charged for a single night, and for what amounted to double the space, with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and 2 small terraces. If you don't mind being out of the center of town, I highly recommend the Residence. Otherwise, try the hotel.

We were a little disappointed in our stay at the Albergo delle Drapperie. The price was great as was the location, but the staff were not friendly or helpful and the room was very small. The AC was very cold and neither we, nor the gal who came to check on it, could regulate it, so we froze. I would probably not stay here again.

I agree with the other posters in that this hotel is a heck of a bargain and is in a great location for seeing the sights of Bologna.

We were very disappointed in the service of the staff. We were traveling with two older people and there are two flights of stairs from the entrance to the lobby (the elevator starts on the 2nd floor) - the people working there (who can see you enter on a camera from the desk) never offered to assist in any way and sat and talked while they struggled up the stairs with their bags. We have traveled in Italy extensively so stairs are not a surprise - however, I have never been anywhere where staff doesn't help out.

The rooms were regular size for Italy so smallish by American standards like a lot of rooms in Italy. The noise was a little high as noted by other posters. The sleeping area was clean and comfortable however, the biggest issue we had with the room was the copious amounts of mold growing in the bathroom with accompanying aroma that was so strong we left the door shut so we couldn't smell it in the bedroom.

We ended up leaving one day early and the staff at the desk never bothered to ask why or if there was a problem.

I would say overall if you want something inexpensive, moderately clean and in a good location book this hotel. However, if you like a few more amenities and any service from the staff, I would look elsewhere. And be aware - if you have issues with stairs you could run into problems here.

The Albergo doesn’t have a bellboy service, but we gladly help (elderly) people who politely ask.

Be prepared to be treated with a dismissive attitude.... after a long days drive to arrive at the hotel we waited while two staff members chatted for about 10 minutes.

Finally one was able to grant us their attention and check us in.

The room - though small - is fine for a few nights and the size you'd expect for europe.

It was a good location with nice little shops around and walking distance to many of the local attractions. However - at night it can get a bit noisy with the local bars later on. Oh - and hope that you don't have neighbours that go in and out 10 times like ours did - you hear everything... incuding their shower.

For the price and the length of stay - highly recommend though.

Should you arrive at the end of a receptionist’s shift, it may happend that you have to wait a little bit. This is necessary to give who is leaving the time to hand over customers’information to their collegue.

I just returned from an overnight stay here, and I was extremely pleased. It was a great value (only 85 euros). It was in an awesome location (just steps from Bologna's main attractions). It was extremely, very clean. The staff was helpful in finding very tastey restaurants. It was a short walk (10 minutes) from the train station. We were on the fourth floor, and had a great view of the rooftops and one of the two towers. It's on a tiny side street, with lots of local markets and cafes. So we opted out of the hotel's breakfast.

The room is sparse, but who needs all the extras when all you do is sleep there. Not many toiletries are provided, so be sure to bring your own. But the satellite TV worked great, which made catching up on the news in English helpful after a long day of sightseeing.

Overall, a great, wonderfully clean hotel for budget travelers who want to be in the heart of the city. I highly recommend.

You will be really pleased if you have picked this hotel. It's got to be in the best location ever! We found it easily after catching a bus from the airport and walking to the hotel.

As you will see from the pictures, its in a little busy street, with lots of hustle and bustle. We went out for tea and a couple of drinks and it was like someone had waved a magic wand, complete silence, everything shut and gone, and a dark alley again - until the following morning when it was back to fresh fruit and bakery, etc....!

It was 116Euro for our two nights and we had breakfast only on one day, we found there plenty of places to grab something that it wasn't worth the 5 euros they charge. Staff were friendly, tried hard to communicate, althugh my italian left alot to be desired and everything was clean and our room 201 didn't overlook road as I'd requested (light sleeper) and it was great.

I wasn't expecting much as it was a late deal and more or less the only thing I could get at the right price in our budget, but I would go back here again. Well worth the money and has lots of character.
