The Abbazia di Santo Stefano is a real must. Religious art from the 4th till 19th century. Architecture, painting. If I had to choose one site to revisit, it would be Santo Stefano.

Very interesting small churches spanning many centuries. We visited on. Sunday when an antique market is held in the square.

"the seven churches" as the bolognese call it is at the end of a paved road, and it is a labyrinthine experience to walk around it. Full of suggestion and artworks - remarkable decoration and unique pieces like St. Peter's rooster's statue - it includes a shop where you can purchase liquors, jams and honeys coming from different monasteries all over italy. A preferred visit for the locals, in front there is once a month a great antiquary market well worth the visit.

Santa Stefano was one of my favorite sites in Bologna. Upon first entering, the church seemed nice and the crypt was interesting, but I wondered what all the fuss was about. But then I noticed the small door to the right of the stairs to the presbytery, where a woman was sitting at a table. The passage on the other side of the door takes you the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which contains an XIth century chapel that is a replica of the Sepulchre of Christ in Jerusalem. The other interconnected churches and chapels as well as the cloister are also beautiful and illustrate many different architectural and decorative styles. I definitely agree with other reviewers' suggestion to buy the guidebook from the woman at the table and leave yourself plenty of time to explore!

I liked the history and crypt. Be sure to spend the 5 Euros to buy the guide book.
Nothing I disliked.
