Great food. Made to feel welcome. Complex menu presented in English. I ate fish lasagne deconstructed and duck with cherries. My partner fresh tomato pasta and monkfish. All lovely and fresh and a light frizzante. Great stuff.

Probably when you come to Bologna you a have a list of restaurants you plan to visit, if Il Cannone is not on the list make sure to add it.

A small and cozy restaurant, not far from the center, which serves excellent food prepared with skill by Raffaella and recommended by Luca who is always genuinely interested in your enjoyment.

One of the peculiarities of the restaurant is the periodic menu written on small chalkboards, the choice is always difficult but whatever you choose it’s excellent.
For the starter we had a carrot Bavarian cream with grilled goat cheese and raw artichoke salad with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese (famous cheese of this region). Both delicious.

The pasta courses were equally impressive : cotechino ravioli with pot herbs and julienne cut red beet (Cotechino is a typical sausage from Modena made from pork, fatback and pork rind) and white lasagna with rabbit ragù, chanterelle mushrooms and chestnut.

Our main course was buffalo steak with ancient mustard sauce, the meat quality was up to ( and beyond) the standard, tender and tasty and the sauce was a perfect combination.

For the wine choice we asked Luca who is amazing in wine suggestions. He mixes his knowledge with kind of psychological skills and is able to understand each guest’s preferences and never makes mistakes.

We asked for a full-bodied red wine and we tasted for the first time an amazing Valpolicella Ripasso San Rocco by Tedeschi cantina.

To end a dessert couldn’t miss : we had warm chocolate cake with mascarpone cream and a sweet Bailey’s and fiordilatte flavor with topping made of apples, raisins and roasted pinoli nuts.

Great dinner, great atmosphere.

In addition to the periodic menu you have a fix one with other dishes including typical Bolognese typical ones. Options for vegetarians but fish dishes served in spring and summer with special recipes.

I am flattered to talk about one of my favorite places in Bologna.
Osteria Cannone is a place of two good friends, Raffaella and Luca, two experts in the food field.
Lovely Raffaella overflows with ideas, creating new recipes and dishes all the time, actually the menu written on boards is changing very often with updated recipes and fresh ingredients.
Luca is the host and the sommelier, if you have any doubt about food or drink pairing he will make the right choice for you and you will be pleasantly surprised.
The other day we had dinner at Osteria Cannone having fresh artichokes salad with parmesan cheese, Bavarian carrot with grilled goat cheese, to follow

Once again we had no reservation and were let in a few minutes early as it was cold outside. We were made most welcome and our server,David, explained the menu in detail and offered us the seasonal menu from which my wife chose seasoned octopus tentacle wrapped in bacon which said was delicious-I don't care for such things. We had a crab bruschetta each which was given to us. My starter was medley of thinly sliced pecorino and pear piled high and drizzled with honey along with scattered walnuts and a small glass of vanilla ice cream-pure, creative, food heaven! My wife had monk fish with fermented pig's cheek , along with a small glass of mango ice cream from the seasonal menu and it too was outstanding. I chose tortellini in stock for my main course this was also lovely.the basket of cheee flavoured tortellini bread and bread sticks given as standard was nice too snd the cheese tortellini bread was quite addictive! The wine we chose was local wine called Duesettanta and this very palatable. My wife chose a nut flavoured mousse on a base of saffron sauce along with scattered nougat. The owner, Luca, was also very helpful to us. If this restuarant was in the UK you would have to book weeks in advance, yes, it is simply that good!i had two sambucas to finish one bring artisanal but it is a lot lighter than I prefer but it was nice nontheless! All of this for €90! A truly memorable night! Thank you David & Luca!
