My review and photos are of the hotel's single "budget room" with external bathroom. (Yes, I was looking for an inexpensive stay in Bologna for 7+ nights, and this met my criteria.) Overall, I'd rate my stay at Albergo Centrale around 3.5 stars; just short of being 'very good', but definitely better than average!

The hotel's location is excellent, only a few minutes walk to Piazza Maggiore and another couple of minutes to the Due Torri. Naturally, you are also close to a range of shopping, restaurant, transport and bank (ATM) option. Pretty much a perfect spot!

The room itself exceeded expectations. The bed was comfortable, there was a small TV, an ample wardrobe, and a wash basin. Towels were provided. The shared bathroom was never occupied in my entire period there, and it was kept very clean and tidy. The cleaning staff at the hotel do a pretty amazing job, they are hard-working ladies. The only issue I had with the room was the temperature; it was still pretty warm in September, and the room's small (old) aircon unit struggled to keep the room cool at night. The heating system (not used, naturally) appeared to be more reliable, if you're planning to stay during winter.

Breakfast was extensive and Italian-themed. There were also a couple of lounge rooms where you could relax a bit. There was a charge for wifi (8 Euros for each 7 days). The elevator broke down during my stay, which made the walk up three (actually four) flights of stairs useful exercise after a day of eating and drinking in the wonderful city of Bologna.

The hotel was in a great location, close to piazza maggiore and independence street which was good for shopping.
We were in a good sized room which was clean and the air conditioning was good.
The breakfast was cold buffet with lots of pastries and rolls, not for the slimmer !
The lift was being repaired when we arrived but a porter helped us with luggage. It wasn't able to be repaired for the duration of our trip. We managed ok but it was very tough at times. Over a hundred steps. Not for the faint hearted, seniors or disabled.
Hopefully it is now fixed.
The staff were courteous and friendly and one of the receptionists was very helpful in phoning around good restaurants on sat eve to get us a reservation.
On the whole would go back there as long as lift was working.

Room Tip: Ask in box when booking for what you want.

Just 3-5 minutes to Piazza Maggiore. The hotel is located a few flights above street level but, no worries: there is an elevator. It is also quiet. My room was small but very clean. It had a small washbasin; my bathroom was private but the room over. The room also had air-conditioning though, I believe, not all rooms in this hotel have this convenience. Breakfast was plenty, more than I received elsewhere in my travels this summer, and staff very nice. Very recommended.

The room we had was pretty average. Clean but dark and noisy. No tea or coffee in the room and the bathroom looks like a walk in freezer. You have to pay for the wifi. In saying that however the breakfast made up for everything- absolute banquet. All in all not a bad choice.

Hotel Centrale Bologna is a short walk to Piazza Maggiore and San Petronius. There are many cafes, restaurants, a shopping very near the hotel. The people at the hotel and the service and breakfast were all excellent. I picked a winner!

Spotlessly clean. Located 2 minutes from main square. Good quiet air-conditioning. Quiet room, good sleep quality even though our's faced the busy Via Ugo Bassi.
Frosty staff. Charge for WiFi - though you can get free unlimited WiFi in the main square, just ask at the Tourist Office.
We've stayed here on 4 separate occasions.

My husband and I stayed at this location for 2 nights in Jan - The hotel it self is easy to locate with some pre planning - we had a map with directions printed from Google and got there from the train terminal a shortish walk (20mins) with little fuss - we managed it with our luggage in the rain dodging in and out of the portico's as we went. Once you are there it is central close to the shops, and the Piazza's.

The room we had was clean, and comfortable, the bathroom was a little squishy but we definitely had smaller on the holiday - The window had a lovely outlook on the street below and the lovely terracotta roof tiles that surround (see attached photo). The breakfast was included and adequate.

Our stay was a whirlwind - we had a wonderful day tour of the surrounding 'supercar' factories as this was my husbands leg of the holiday - the hotel was easy for this tour operator to locate us there were no troubles or delays. On our remaining day we spend wandering and eating our way around Bologna.
