Touring the cheese factory with "Alex," and then on toward the "modena balsamic experience," inhaling the aromas of award-winning vinegars, . . . both together, represented the perfect escape from the hustle-bustle of the city. With her steadfast eye as to quality choices (the luncheon, en route), her conservative driving style (as in, safety and "you're alive when you return"!), coupled with her amiable demeanor and witty repartees, your entire adventure is worth every penny--and then some. Easily, one of the absolute highlights of our week in Bolognia!

This is great day out of the city with a private tour guide. The cost is very reasonable. We visited a casavecchia that still produces the nero cheese. That was a delight! We also visited the balsamico museum and production site. The lunch was incredible and made for a nice respite from the hussle and bustle of Bologna. My only disappoinment was the prosciutto farm was closed on Sunday and we were not informed of this until the tour was under way. In hind sight that was not really a bad thing since the tour still lasted all day and or return was not until 5 (1700).

For our last day in town we decided to take the olive oil and wine tour. We were expecting to see olive oil production and a winery. What we got was a trip to an olive oil store, that sells wine and a nice lunch. The tour guide is a very nice girl, but during the olive oil tasting all she did was translate what the store owner was saying. We expected her to be more knowledgeable. We never tasted any wines nor were any wines offered to us. We were also expecting to see how the olive oil is produced, rather than just how it is sold. She does know a lot about the area and the hike to the clock tower provides some great opportunities for photos. For the money we dont think it was a great value but it was still a fun time and if you want to see some of the Italian country side, with your own person guide, this might be a good tour for you.

I am remiss in not having done this soon because out time with Martina in the two tours with here were one of the high points of our time in Bologna and Italy. On our first tour we visited the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese factory, coffee at a small café, a wonderful lunch, tour of some beautiful countryside and finished up Balsamico museum experience. The next day we tour the markets of Bologna with a very special lunch with locals in the center of Bologna.

Throughout the two day Martina is informative, relaxed, flexible and very professional. My wife and I are seasoned travelers but would have never been able to discover all of the experiences that Martina exposed use to. This encounter guided by Martina will always stand out in our travel memories. I can’t highly recommend working with her if you are in Bologna!

Rita, who was our guide for the day, was not only very friendly, but she was also extremely knowledgeable about the history of Bologna and the various attractions in Bologna providing us with recommendations based on our interests.

That day we toured the Parmesan cheese factory where we saw the skilled professionals making parmesan and ricotta (a by product of making parmesan cheese). Rita explained to us what the entire process and what the cheesemakers were doing at each stage.

We then stopped for lunch at a local restaurant enjoying fettucine that was covered in delicious porcini mushrooms and another that was covered in truffles - yes covered! After a delicious lunch we proceeded to the Aceta (I hope I spelled that correctly) where they make Balsamic vinegar. On the way there, Rita explained the process of making Balsamic vinegar, allowing us to better appreciate the art and tradition of making balsamic vinegar.

As we had requested ahead of time, Rita was able to fit in a market tour at the end of our trip, taking us through one of the local markets in Bologna. The colourful fruits and vegetables and the huge variety of meats and cheeses in the various shops was certainly an eye opening experience. What's more, Rita was able to purchase a small portion of a various types of prosciutto and cheeses allowing us to sample, compare and contrast the different varieties!

All in all it was a very memorable experience and on e of the highlights of our trip. I would definitely recommend Golosa food tours! Thanks Rita for an amazing experience and all the great information you provided us!
