We went here on our penultimate night of a week's stay in Bologna. The staff were friendly and very helpful, the service was a little slow at times, but there only seemed to be two waiters working that night who had to cope with nearly full restaurant; that said, they were still very attentive and we did not feel forgotten about. The atmosphere inside was great - warm and convivial. The food was delicious - we started with courgette flowers stuffed with ricotta, then had tortellini in brodo, followed by the undoubted star of the show, the beef cheek braised in white wine (the most delicious, flaky, tender, melt-in-the-mouth beef; one of the best meals we have ever eaten). After a lovely dessert we finished off with a couple of whiskies (they have a very decent selection, my wife went for Laphroig and I went for Caol Ila). When we were leaving we asked one of the waiters' for a recommendation for a good place to go for a drink, he walked us part of the way there and gave us directions (then took a picture of us on our camera!). We would definitely eat here again - delicious food and first class, friendly service. What more could you want?

I had the tagliatelle and then the pork shank. The tagliatelle bolognese was typical, but good, but also on the pricey side for such a simple and common dish. The pork was slightly dry, but pretty good. It was really good with the sweet purple stuff. The potatoes were way too hot. I had to let them cool for several minutes and they were still too hot.

The waiter was very nice and spoke English.

We came for a lunch and it was almost empty, but still the service was extreamly slow. And I'm not talking about the food preparation, but even things like water and check. The food was good, but for the price we paid we could expect much better dishes.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel and we cased the joint just as the staff were starting to set up for lunch, before making our reservation for dinner that evening. From start to finish, this was a wonderful experience.

We were very well attended to by the waiter/maitre de, who offered helpful advice on the dishes on the menu. The portions are not frighteningly huge, which suited us well. Delicious starters included the stuffed courgette flowers. The beef cheek main course, must have been cooked for hours - it was "melt in the mouth" delicious, tender and tasty. The concluding cheese board was a little limited by the range of Italian cheeses available, but the wines made up for this. The friendly and helpful waiter proved to be very knowlegeable about wines (and spirits) and allowed us to taste some really good wines which matched our meal perfectly.

We will recommend Vicolo Colombina to others and hope to be back there on a futuer visit to Bologna.

Vicolo Columbina was the final restaurant visited in our two week holiday in Italy. We chose it based on Trip Advisor’s commendations and reservations are highly recommended, as people were being turned away at the door because it was “fully booked” (despite eight tables still empty when we left at nine o’clock). We arrived early, before the restaurant opened, and were allowed to take our seats for a glass of prosecco while the staff prepared for the evening. The friendly waiter really seemed in his element, and the busier the restaurant got, the more animated he became, spinning on his heel when fetching a bottle of sparkling Lambrusco, but when the large Italian family arrived for their lavish meal, we pretty much lost sight of him and were mainly served by the more reserved waitress. We enjoyed starters of cheese-stuffed zucchini flowers and a plate of tagliatelli Bolognese, and the chef was quite happy to split the two dishes between two plates for us to share. Our main courses were tasty grilled steak and slow cooked pork ribs, each served with a small number of sautéed potatoes. The steak was better than the ribs, which in my opinion needed a sauce. Dessert was a bit disappointing: a rather stale muffin cut in half and served with custard. Better was the crème caramel. The chilled red Lambrusco is a local specialty that is recommended to try with the meats, and we had a very special grappa to round off the meal. Just over a hundred Euros, this was a perfectly satisfactory final meal in Italy.
