“Location convenient, parking less so”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

The hotel is right outside the limited traffic zone, which is convenient once you've managed to figure out how to get rid of the car - parking was nearby but quite expensive.

The hotel was very nice and comfortable, more of a business hotel but lovely nonethless.

I see some of the recent two reviews and couldn't have a more different perspective. We booked reservations here in January and when we showed up they were honored without any problem. We traveled as a family of 4 and we had two rooms in a separate little hallway on the 6th floor - perfect set up! The rooms suited our purposes just fine - didn't need huge rooms, just needed to be clean, quiet, have wi fi access, comfortable beds and air conditioning. Great water pressure and heat for showers - no issues with bathrooms at all. The bonus was instant hot water heaters with coffee and tea selections in the rooms. The only caution is the windows in the room open for fresh air which is great, but there are no screens on them so if traveling with children be aware of this.

The front staff was very helpful and friendly to us. I speak a little Italian and maybe that helped but it seems like all the experiences at front desk were positive during our 4 night stay here.

Breakfast was wonderful - one of our best during our 10 night stay in Italy. A lovely selection of pastries, fresh meats and cheeses, fresh tomatoes with mozzarella slices, scrambled eggs, granolas and yogurt, coffees, teas, juices, etc.

It is a bit of a walk to Piazza Maggiore (the City Center) but as an active family - parents in our late 40s with kids of 10 and 12, this wasn't an issue and we enjoyed the sightseeing (& gelato) along the way. You just take the main street all the way to "downtown". We walked to Piazza Maggiore in the City Center once and to the train station (Bologna Centrale) twice. The train station was about a 15 to 20 minute walk, downtown about 30 minutes.

Another bonus is a grocery store is only a 5 minute walk down the street to buy water and snacks for your sightseeing at good prices. There are also nice patisserie shops across the way.

We used Bologna as a hub and took day trips via train to Firenze (Florence) and Venezia (Venice) for 2 of our 4 days. Easy, peasy to do and affordable, especially if you book ahead of time on trenitalia.

Would definitely stay here again.

best western chain is everywhere I mean everywhere in Italy, but don't expect the American style, and standards of best western in America. the room was clean, beds were clean and bathroom was clean, breakfast was basic but good, the rooms look like thbest westerns from the 70's, the a/c blows only on the fan mode, the a/c don't work until the beginning of july I guess, so be prepare to sleep warmly before then.

Room Tip: about half an hour walk time from downtown, stay only if you have your own transportation

Oh where to begin… I received my new Best Western Rewards Card so I booked a three night stay at the Bologna (Italy) Best Western, when I showed my card so I could get my points... their response was I could not get points because of the way I booked the room…??? Now, how am I supposed to know, (as the customer), what is the right way or wrong way to book a Best Western room??? This was the first AND last time I try and use my Best Western Rewards Card,…. I cut it up,… NO more Best Westerns for me. The room temperature was very hot because the AC hardly worked, the restaurant was so-so. (we should have known something was up when we were the only people in the place) Also, there are NO nearby restaurants. There was a German motorcycle gang staying there. The motorcycles woke me up in the morning. You know what they say… loud motorcycle- small…. And ABOVE ALL, the service was terrible in every aspect. Every question I asked was answered with sarcasm. As a tourist, they offered no help or advice about local attractions. When I asked for a fan because the AC was barely working they snickered and said “NO FAN”. The neighborhood is marginal at best. Over all, a bad experience… and they simply didn’t care if it was good or bad.

Stayed here for one night. Easy directions to find by car and a lots of free car-parking. Free internet. Our room was small but adequate (all reflective in the price you pay) Very clean. We had dinner in the restaurant (outside as it was a lovely warm night). Food nothing fancy but we both enjoyed our meals. Breakfast also was included in our rate which was pretty good.
The walk to the city centre was an easy 25 minute journey and we were allowed to leave our car in the car park on the day we were leaving to go into town.
Very friendly and helpful reception staff who spoke good English.

Beware of your reservation at this hotel during peak times (exhibitions, fairs...). In January of 2012, we booked 3 rooms for 2 nights (at E49/room/night) for a visit in September 2012. When we arrived at the hotel on Sept 23, we learned that ALL our room reservations had been cancelled! We were told that there was only one room available that night and that the rate was E350 due to there being a Ceramics Exhibition in town. After many frantic phone calls, we were able to find 3 hotel rooms in Bologna for E269/room/night!

Stayed for 1 night with friends. Very nice hotel, welcoming and modern. The room was comfortable, clean and seemed "recent" with everything in very good shape. The breakfast is very nice too. One only problem : you need to take a bus or walk about 30 minutes to get to the historical center.
