Just had dinner there tonight. We chose our antipasto from the buffet. Papardelle with cinghiale was outstanding. Padrone and waiters very accommodating. Gave little tastes of house specialties. The size and ambience were just right. Close to the center but on a very small street. What a delightful surprise - we had not noticed it on Tripadvisor; it was recommended by an Italian waitress in a cafe.

We wanted to have lunch in an other place but it was fully book, the owner suggested to come here. We have been lucky to have the last available table. Great menu with a variety of traditional dishes, the wine list is a little bit limited. The starter (Mortadella) was good but the dish presentation was really disappointing, (at least not the most important), circa 20 Mortadela cube without any vegetable. Tortellini al ragu just delicious! One bottle of Cartize and 2 coffee for a total bill at €74, in line with other place where we have been. The service was cold and fast, we had the impression they just wanted to make the table available for the people waiting outside.

Trattoria Leonida was recommended to us by our hotel. It’s up a narrow side-street off Strada Maggiore – a neon sign shows the turn-off.
We had lunch there on a Friday and, liking what we had, booked a table for the following Saturday night. So the dishes described cover 2 meals.

For lunch we had a very tasty tagliattelle with ragu Bolognese and a risotto with beef & red wine. Followed by a panna cotta (more like a large crème caramel) and a meringue/ice-cream & chocolate concoction. With a bottle of very good Sangiovese (€18), water and coffees, our bill for lunch came to €61.

For dinner the following night, I started with some remarkably light gnocchi Verdi with a porcini sauce while the wife had tagliatelle with proscuitto & peas. Both very good.
For mains, I had rabbit and the wife had a pork chop and we shared some rosemary roast potatoes. Both delicious.
We finished with a chocolate mousse with orange – sticky but excellent and the wife had another go at the meringue.
Finally 2 good macchiatos and a grappa. With very good Sangiovese (€18) and water, our bill came to €96 before tip.

Most starters and main courses (Primi & Secondi) are priced at €10-12, plenty of wines under €20, it’s possible to have a good meal here without breaking the bank. A good sign was that many of the customers were Italian/local.

The service we experienced on both visits was good – but when the restaurant was busy on the Saturday night, there were definitely some lapses at other tables.

Toilets - separate ladies & gents, the wife happy with the state of the ladies.

I discovered this restaurant in 2000 and have used it for group dinners, one to one dinners, small parties over the years. The people who run it are so nice and nothing is too much trouble. Their pasta dishes are so good. Possibly one of the best restaurants, that's not OTT in price, in Bologna. Well worth a visit and next time I'm in Bologna it will be the first place that I head to for dinner.
