“The highlight of our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2012

Our stay at B&B Benelli was a highlight of our Italy vacation! Roberta is a wonderful host, with a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm, recommendations, maps, and even cookbooks to orient her guests to Bologna. Breakfast was an absolute delight, with delicious oven dried tomatoes, fresh ricotta, family olive oil, and homemade yoghurt. Cold cuts, bread, and ripe fruit were also made available. Yum! There was so much to choose from. I would highly recommend a stop in Bologna, and if you do, be sure to stay at B&B Benelli !!

Thank you dear guests for your lovely review.

I am happy that you enjoyed my place and my breakfasts. Bologna is famous for its good food and I like to maintain its fame serving the great dishes from our territory for breakfast.

I hope you will continue to choose Italy for your future holidays.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

I stayed at the B&B Benelli for 7 days and loved every minute of my time in the Bologna area (making a daytrip to Ravenna and another one to Parma).

B&B Benelli takes the term bed-and-breakfast to a new level and what my fellow reviewers say is accurate: from the home-made yoghurt and cakes to the semi-dried tomatoes, the slivers of prosciutto, the thin slices of bologna, the parmesan, the home-made peach compote, etc. as well as its central location both from the train station and to the center of Bologna. Roberta is a fantastic hostess and staying here is like staying with a friend. Her love for the city is what makes a big difference, making it impossible for one not to take advantage of everything Bologna has to offer: its architecture, the museums, the produce 'market' (small stores selling a variety of mouth-watering fruit, fresh pasta, hams, etc.).

Most people have read up about things to visit and do, but it was refreshing to discover the enthusiasm with which Roberta talks about how to get a good-value museum pass or how to participate at Thursday's happy hour at the Prendiparte Tower or the small angel attributed to Michelangelo at the Basilica of San Domenico or just the simple pleasures of experimenting ice cream at Gelateria Gianni or Gelateria Venchi or going to the Enoteca Italiana for a glass of wine (or two) or where to find the better parmeggiano regiano or funghi porcini or the closest supermarket and the story behind aceto balsamico.

Why Bologna doesn't attract the number of tourists that visit possibly better known cities such as Venice or Florence is perhaps understandable considering the choices one has to make or the time constraints which interfere with our daily lives. But, not visiting Bologna is a mistake. It is also a town where it is easy to get around. Roberta's suggestions make a difference and therefore it is impossible not to fall in love with the city - and the B&B Benelli.

Thanks you dear friend for your wonderful words!
You were a great guest. Your kindness, your politeness and your courtesy made your stay very pleasurable for me as well. Bologna is a vibrant city, full of initiatives, mostly in the summer and only those who live here are aware of everything that happens. It is my pleasure to be available for my guests in suggesting everything the city has to offer. Thanks again for your lovely comment.

We stayed for just one night at B&B Benelli, our choice based mainly on the reviews we’d read here on TA, and it completely lived up to our high expectations.

The building has a large, marble-floored entrance with full-time porter/caretaker who was friendly and helpful, so initial impressions were good.

As has been said, Roberta is very friendly. She’s intelligent, attentive without being invasive, completely welcoming and very generous. She clearly knows plenty about Bologna and is ready to share that knowledge with ideas and suggestions of things to do, places to eat and the like.
The room is large and comfortable, very modern, with lots of wardrobe space, TV with Sky, free wi-fi and a good selection of books and magazines on Bologna. There are two large skylights which fill the room with light and ventilate it well, though those are the only windows, so don’t expect a view.

The room, and its clean and modern bathroom, are neatly sectioned off from the main apartment and in fact has its own front door, so you can come home late without worrying about disturbing your landlady. The toilet and bidet are set quite high from the floor, which is good news for those with mobility issues who might find it difficult to get up from a low squat.

We certainly looked forward to breakfast after having read the reviews, and again we weren’t disappointed – far from it. Lovely Parma ham, mortadella, fresh local ricotta, freshly baked bread, sundried tomatoes in olive oil and home-made red onion marmalade were the mainstays of the savoury side of things. Then there were home-made cake and biscuits (cantucci), home-made yoghurt, local honey, home-made jams and cooked apple and a selection of fresh fruit. There were also cereals such as muesli and cornflake-type things. Of course, there was plenty of freshly-made good-quality coffee, plus tea, herbal tea and fruit juice on offer.

We felt sorry only to be staying for the one night, but should we return to Bologna, we’ll certainly stay here again. Highly recommended.

Thanks Mick for this lovely and detailed comment.
You were two wonderful guests and chatting with you was very interesting. When I started the B&B activity my intention was not only to offer a room to sleep in (Bologna is full of very nice hotels and B&Bs!!) but rather to share with my guests my knowledge of the city (I was born here) so that they can visit it and discover it through the eyes of a person who lives here rather than a touris. I really hope to be able to host you on another occasion!!

I spent 4 nights at Roberta's beautiful B&B and echo all the complimentary remarks about her, the excellent room & ensuite in her wonderful stylish apartment, with its own private entry and free wi fi. And of course the BREAKFASTS which were all absolutely magnificent, from the cereal with poached pears in wine with homemade yoghurt; the semi dried tomatoes with homemade ricotta and oil, oh, my mouth is watering at the memory. It was more like staying with a friend than with a person running a B&B business. Bologna had an absence of tourists compared to the likes of Florence for example, and it was a pleasure to get Roberta's suggestions as to where to visit e.g. the markets, and one day, to visit Ferrara, as Bologna is an excellent base for visiting other towns in Emilia Romagna. The B&B is a 10 minute walk from the railway station and about 10-15 minutes walk to the centre of town, so it is very convenient. Roberta is a lovely person, she clearly enjoys meeting people and her English is excellent. I could not recommend her B&B more highly.

Thanks Siobhan for dedicating a little of your time to writing this wonderful comment.
Bologna is a perfect base for daily visits in Ferrara, Ravenna and Parma, as well as being a welcoming and wonderful city. Florence is only a 40 minutes away by train.
It's true that I love hosting and getting to know people from different parts of the world because through their stories I learn about countries and habits that are new to me. I am happy to have contributed to making your stay in Bologna pleasant and interesting.

My fiancee and I spent 2 nights at B&B Benelli during a 5 week trip of Europe, including 3 weeks in Italy. We stayed in B&B type accomodation for most of the trip and this was hands-down the best accomodation that we experienced. Some highlights:

- The room is spacious, clean and very comfortable.
- The private bathroom is large, modern and very clean.
- The room has completely private entry so we could come and go as we pleased.
- Walking distance from train station, and an easy walk into the heart of Bologna.
- The best hostess! This cannot be understated. Roberta is a lovely and incredibly helpful hostess. When we arrived she sat down with hand annotated map and talked us through some highlights of Bologna, and she even had a print out of the best sites with details of opening hours etc. She left chocolates and strawberries in our room to come home to. And she helped arrange a food tour, as we were having trouble getting in contact with the tour operator.
- The breakfast! Easily the best breakfast of the entire trip. Bologna mortadella, fresh ricotta, bread, honey, biscuits, cakes, freshly made orange crepes, fruit salad and home made yoghurt. It was truly spectacular.

In summary, we can confirm all of the excellent reviews, and we wont hesitate in staying with Roberta again. Bologna felt like a bit of hidden treasure, hardly any tourists (in April anyway) and so much to see, do and eat, so we definately plan on going back!!

Room Tip: only 1 room, which makes it an even nicer experience.
