Albergo San Domenico
Ranked #6 of 13 Hotels in Urbino
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Ok, you are in front of the Palazzo Ducale, and at walking distance from everything in old Urbino. And the hotel is reasonably good for cleanliness, position, breakfast and so on. But it could be definitely better, considering the price you pay and the overall expectations.
They say that the architect that made the restoration from a previous convent decided to make it visible that the hotel is really an hotel added to a previous convent, using very strong colors to distinguish. But the final effect is not pleasant because the hotel all in all is neither new nor old-style. You have this strange features added to a very old-fashioned mood.
Breakfast anyway is excellent, and also the possibility of having a parking at convenient price in Urbino center.

I stayed 2 nights and found the hotel to be reasonably good. On the plus side, the staff were helpful when asked, the room was clean and very spacious and hotel is conveniently situated near the palazzo Ducale. Furishings are a little old fashioned and unfortunately the bed was hard and uncomfortable (for me). The breakfast was fabulous and catered for every taste but was not included in the room price despite being pretty sure I read it as an inclusion on the booking website. The wifi was not only expensive but I could only get it in the foyer, not in the room. There were no tea / coffee making facilities in the room. If approaching hotel from bus stop in the Piazza Mercatale, be sure to find the lift (l'ascensore) which will take some of the hard work out of the climb, as hotel is right at the top of the town and lugging a bag up the cobblestoned long steep incline was not easy for this older traveller.

The hotel is superbly placed for a visit to Urbino, being a two minute walk to the Palazzo Ducale.
The staff are very helpful, the rooms large if old fashioned but with very comfortable beds and all amenities that you would expect from a hotel such as this.
The breakfast was superb, the best in fact I have had in many years of travelling thoughout the world.
A note on the Palazzo Ducale, it is well worth visiting early in the morning as soon as it opens.
Then you will probably have the place to yourself and time to admire the architectural beauty of the palazzo.

Perfect location in the town centre with car parking available. Really friendly helpful staff. Rooms a bit austere but more than adequate with al mod cons. Wifi charge is a nuisance but theres free wifi in the piazza outside. The price is well justified by the convenience.

We recommend staying in Urbino to get the full impact of the city and the opportunity to visit and re-visit all the sites. Getting to the hotel was easier than expected (we arrived at lunch time when the town was quiet). The parking was also in the hotel courtyard and again was very convenient, (but costs extra). The hotel is disappointingly modern inside although the rooms are large. Everything seemed to be extra and the wifi in particular was expensive. There is no restaurant - but the hotel serves breakfast - which is also extra. I would stay there again but only because Urbino is so fabulous.

The Hotel is placed in a fabulous location, right next to "Palazzo Ducale" and the Cathedral. The room are big and clean, with air conditioning. The staff is nice, polite and always present for your needs. We just stayed for a night, and we only had breakfast, but I think it was the best breakfast I've had in a long time: croissants, cakes, pies, bread, jam, honey, eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, yogurt.. There's everything for every taste. Obviously, being a four star superior, it is not really cheap, but if you spend just a weekend in Urbino, that's one of the best choices you could make!

Great location, helpful staff, clean rooms. A great place to stay while in Urbino, couldn't have been more pleased. Right off the main square, staff was very helpful and made me feel at home. Room was large and comfortable and the bath was more than ample.

Room Tip: All rooms are similiar especially on the upper floors
