“Overpriced”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

This restaurant came highly recommended by guides but did not live up to expectations. Food was very average for the price. Although the place was empty the service was rushed and generally poor. Open wine brought to table (not same year as that shown in menu). Would not recommend

“Unnecessarily pompous”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

"Vecchia Urbino" is a restaurant in the city centre of Urbino.
The style tries to be rustic-chic, but the general impression I had is that you're given a red carpet and served almost in white gloves to eat a sandwich (as a metaphor, obviously: no sandwich is served).
Food choice is strongly based on local specialities, and it's a mix of excellent ingredients and ordinary dishes. A spark of genius is rare.
The starter (different types of salami and sausages) was good quality, first course (ravioli with local cheese) soooo ordinary, and the second course (lamb ribs) badly cooked. The dessert even worse, it seemed industrial.
Given the price, I would not recommend this place: even though some dishes are valuable, all in all the quality is not so good.

Please, remember to reserve your table in advance: when I went there, the restaurant was almost empty, but a couple was rejected because they didn't reserve!!!

“went back twice”
Reviewed April 24, 2011

In a five week trip to Italy, eating in restaurants every night, this one ranks well up near the top. The waiter was superb, providing us with samples of various wines, oils and dessert wines gratis. If someone from Mars asked for an explanation of what "waiter" meant, this is the guy. Such a contrast to the sullen, disinterested types you find the world over. The wine list was terrific, the food simple and perfectly cooked in home style.

Pleasant atmosphere, interesting menu but quality of the food and service are nothing special.
Small servings for double the price they are worth.

“AVERAGE”
Reviewed August 28, 2010

We expected a lot but risotto was terrible and the rest of the food was just ok. Certainly didn't live up to our expectations. The waiter was like an actor who failed his audition for Fawlty Towers. Wouldn't go back because better and cheaper places in Urbino.
