Short walk from the city center is the magnificent St Peter’s Church. The line moves fast and the entrance is free (a small fee if you want go up the dome) so ignore all the oncoming “guides”. Do everyone a favor and prepare for security screening and wear clothes appropriate for church.

No comments on the Basilica given the tens of thousand of other reviews. However...

If you are in relatively good shape, do the dome climb. It is not for the faint of heart, claustrophobics, or those with bad knees. Adults cost 8 Euro to do the whole 500+ steps on foot, 10 Euro if you take the elevator for the first 200 or so steps. There is often a line for the elevator though, and never one for on foot.

Either way you will get a workout and sweat a bit. We went in November and it was a pleasant temperature, however I imagine in summer the climb would be sweltering. Regardless once you are at the cupola the views are INCREDIBLE!

Okay been there 4 times. Why 2 stars. Well a month and half in Europe and based on beauty its up there but there are other churches just as beautiful and you do not half to wait in line for 2 hours as it pour downs rain. My gosh the amount of people packed in here and the way security is makes it uncomfortable. Sure if your in Rome go but do not just pass by all the smaller churches. Allot of them are beautiful without the maddness and cash cows chasing you.

One of the biggest Churches in the world..It's breathtakingly beautiful...See the work of Michelangelo on the structure...Pope presides here..We took a guided tour of Vatican City and tickets to enter here were included...Always crowded with tourists...

With so many churches in Rome it's easy to be complacent with them. This one is obviously the biggest and for the wow factor we made it the first church we visited. It's so we'll preserved and clearly there is a lot of money within the Vatican to do so.

Best part of the Vatican (Other than the room of maps)...

Incredible. So beautiful and moving. The detail and art is one of a kind.

We climbed the 600+ steps to the top which was crazy and really hard but worth it for the views and pictures!!!

A tour seemed to be overwhelming so read about specific stops instead. This enabled a more casual and thoughtful walk around. Late afternoon on a weekday made the crowds tolerable.

On previous trips I only saw St. Peters after it was crowded with a lot of tourists. The church is beautiful but with this people you cannot even appreciate properly. The last summer I decided that I need to visit that place again, to be able to properly appreciate the architecture as it is due, and this time I could appreciate all the splendor looking at things I had never seen before, I could appreciate all the splendor looking at things, the architecture had some exquisite details that surround you with the curiosity to know what went through the mind of the builder, in my opinion I always going to recommend this place, for family, romantic occasions or simply if you want to escape from the ordinary it's a good place to touch that artistically sensitive side. If you do not believe me, find out yourself and visit, a recommendation from me would be not to go on vacation, because there will always be many people and they will not be able to appreciate it properly.
