While I was excited to see and learn about the Vatican, it could have been very boring....but not with Deborah from Maya Tours as our tour guide! Deborah's love of the Vatican and all of its history is evident in every word she speaks. She made the tour interesting, current, and full of fun! Deborah should get a raise!!!

Had a fabulous tour of the Vatican City and St Peters Basillica with our wonderful guide Pino P. Pino made the whole experience wonderful with his obvious enthusiasm and passion for his city. If you're lucky enough to have him as your guide you will not be disappointed. Wear comfortable shoes and take a bottle for water, loads of water fountains en route to fill up. Perhaps take snacks too as it's 3 hours long and although the food was acceptable in the cafeteria it was basic. There are also limited places to sit down and rest your weary feet.

I made this visit as a chaperone to school pupils on an educational trip. Unfortunately it only confirmed my discomfort with the worst excesses of man made religious institutions. There is plenty of history and marvellous art but the pervading impression was of ostentatious wealth and grandeur, ghastly gilded memorials ironically elevating the very people who should be the humble servants of the church and the people. The Sistine chapel was crushed to capacity as we were herded through like cattle - guards shouting 'Silence'. One of the pupils found it particularly oppressive and had to be taken out. St Peters basilica - another monument to vanity - even marking on the floor how much bigger and better it is than other world cathedrals. I found no holy ground here. Crowded, commercial, excessive and completely missing the point of the gospel and the Church- Peter, never mind Jesus - would be incredulous and appalled..... it is likewise so far removed from the ancient celtic beauty and simplicity of those like Patrick, Columba, Francis and Augustine who left a living legacy - not marble mausoleum. From a purely historical/archaeological perspective I found St Clements Basilica far more engaging as you descended through the layers of thousands of years of ordinary peoples lives hidden below the church.

This was my second visit to the Vatican for Easter, far more prepared this time. Took the tickets to be seated in the front, stood in line at 7am, any later then that and we would have to stand. Took people’s advise and entered from the side entrance and it was a memorable experience. Were able to see the Pope from quite closely, an experience of a life time. After the service he sat in his Pope Mobile and went around blessing people all over the place.

Vatican city is a different city in Europe. A small city in a big and historical city of Rome.
When you enter the city you feel you are far from war in the world
Nice musume and cathideral as well as historical place
If you want to see the museum it beter to take enough time to visit them
Dont forget to vist sant Angelo castle
