This is just a magnificant and famous statute/sculpture of Michelangelo that you see when you visit St Peter's Basilica. It has sicnificant symbolic meaning to the Christian/Catholic faith also.

So while you in The Basilica, make sure you see this famous sculpture!!!

“Beautiful but sadly behind a glass screen”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

If you see one piece of Michel Angelo's work in Rome it has to be this. Free access. Do what everyone does and combine St Peters with the Vatican Museums, its a full day, your feet will be killing you at the end, but it is worth it.

“The perfect Sculpture”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Most sculpture will reflect what the creator want to express.

However this masterpiece sculpture from Michelangelo is different because by looking at it you will feel what Virgin Mary is feeling - it is the most lifelike sculpture I have ever seen.

Take a good camera with a large aperture because it is quite dark there, and flash will NOT help.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

Inside St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, you can find Michaelangelo's La Pieta. It's a little smaller than I imagined from the pictures in history books, but it's just as stunning and masterful as I expected. It's located when you enter the Basilica on the right, I believe...we walked in and went straight forward and backtracked, but either way you should notice it's location by the number of people surrounding it.
