“Grandeur”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

The square is extremely beautiful and one has to be here themselves to see the magnificence all around. Prior to entering the Basilica, one should take a good walk around the square to feel the opulence around the square.

“A must visit when in Rome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Vatican City and spent most of my time in St. Peter's Square. I waited in line for 2 hours to get into the Basilica. The square is a welcome reprieve from all of the peddlers that crowd the squares of central Rome.

“Best known squire”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

Piazza di San Pietro in Vatican city, Rome is a very impressive square in front of St. Peter's Basilica, the largest Catholic church in Italy. It is one of the best known squares in the world.
One can reach here by Metro Line A: Ottaviano San Pietro station, Rome.

You will see on both sides of the square, colonnade, designed to mimic a human embrace. The Obelisk in the center comes from Egypt. Walk around the huge square . On the square you will find the Vatican Post Office famous for its stamps. You can send a postcard from there.

Pope gives on this squair a mass audience on Wednesday mornings. You have to book a free ticket by calling this number: +39-669-884-857

Right outside St Peter Basillica. Very good photo opportunities. Stay away if the Pope is about it will be extremely crowded

“Great Square”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

The weather didn't cooperate for our visit, but the Square still impressed. When you see it on television you know it's big, but until you are standing in it you don't appreciate the scale. We visited on a Saturday and they were setting up for an event, lots of barricades and chairs. It was the Saturday bedsore the Pope stepped down, so probably something to do with that. I suspect it would have seemed larger empty. The fountain and obelisk are absolutely worth seeing.
