“Book online”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2014

My wife and I visited this in Feb on a Monday and immediately knew we made the right decision to get our tickets on line. We booked for the 0900 tickets and were among the first 20 people in the Sistine Chapel, able to walk around and view the paintings up close. The rest of the museum was amazing, little disappointed with the closures of a couple of the wings, but loved everything within. Have an idea of what you want to see, we had the guidebook for this and glad we did.

Bad part is the guided tours you will get stuck behind, they will get to piece stop there, with their 30 or so people, and stand in front of it not allowing people to look around them or even see what the information card has to say,

“If you are not Christian, or very interested in Christianity this is not for you.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2014

I really liked the Egyptian exhibit, but the admittedly beautiful Christian artwork and frescoes were just too much for me. I could appreciate the beauty, but towards the end they just started looking the same to me, and I was bored. If you're looking for a good museum in Rome, and not the religious value, this is not the place to go

“The Museum of Museums”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

We went to Rome in January. While it is risky from a weather standpoint, the crowds are almost non-existent. Even though we made reservations for the Vatican Museums, there was no line to get in and the rooms were not crowded.

This place is truly amazing and the artistry is hard to beat. We went through many of the rooms, although the map room was one of the most interesting, and Raphael's rooms (Stanze di Raffaello) were outstanding. You can take photos throughout the museums (except for the Sistine Chapel). A definite must-see!

“Massive crowds, mass disorganization and terrible signage”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

This was the most disappointing attraction in Rome. We went 27 years ago and things have gone downhill. First of all, you must get an advance reservation. Don't even think of going without one. Even with an advance reservation, it was not clear how to proceed. It would have been sensible to have signage indicating that persons with advance reservations go to the right and around, but of course they didn't have that. Instead you had a massive free for all with countless "guides" yelling for you to hire them. Once you finally get inside, the tour pales by what was available years ago. Because of time constraints, we had to go on a Monday which is not the best day. Most Roman museums are closed on Mondays so the Vatican is even more insanely crowded than other days. In short, massive crowds, mass disorganization and terrible signage. Should you go? Yes. But don't expect a pleasant experience.

“Very Crowded”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

This place is special and beautiful. I would not go again because it is so crowded one can't really enjoy it. People litterly pushed me up stairs and shoved to get where they wanted to be. Very annoying and way to popular.
