We went here on our guided tour.
So pleased we did well worth it.
Guided tours can’t talk in there so got info before you enter the room.
No talking and no photos allowed.
Understandable its very busy but you have to expect that.

Recommended with a guide as part of Vatican museum visit. No photos allowed and gets crowded but it does not deter from the enjoyment of the marvel that the Sistine Chapel is. AMAZING!

Had 8am booking but let in at 8:30am. Museum guards friendly, all other employees completely ignorant and thoroughly unhelpful. Spent over 7 hours there and still did not see everything. You can smoke and eat your pack up in the gardens. We didn't need to leave bags in the cloakroom.

Nicely decorated chapel. Only downside is the crowd they let in to ruin the experience. How difficult it is to stay silent? Ps. the rumour that you can't take photos because of photo rights is false (that contract expired long time ago).

Ignore the touts selling tickets for group tours. Instead, purchase ticket from the official ticket office inside the museum entrance, at the top of the stairs. We spent longer trying to avoid the ticket touts, and disengage ourselves from conversation with them, than we did queuing. Our visit was late morning (11:30 ish), we queued for perhaps 5 minutes at the most to purchase our ticket and get through security.

Outside the front entrance there our signs that say something along the lines of ‘Tour Operator Partners..’. It looks like the entrance is just for tour operators but it is in fact the main entrance - despite people telling you as you walk up that you need to have pre-booked tickets. Once again, ignore the touts and go inside the vatican museum entrance - go upstairs to purchase a ticket. There is the option to purchase guided tour tickets inside if that’s something you want to do - we didn’t.

We also went to St Peter’s Basilica and up the dome. At at around 3pm, it took about 20 minutes to queue and get through security. There was no queue to purchase tickets for the dome. Cash only to buy the dome tickets.

Week after epiphany seems like a good time to visit!
