When in Rome, a visit to the Vatican museum and the Sistine chapel are a must do!

I would highly recommend paying for a guided tour for the museum as you get to skip the queue and learn tons more about the artefacts that are in there.

Once inside the Sistine chapel be mindful of the rules: no photos, modest dress code and quiet.
Sadly a lot of people don't pay attention to these, which means that most of what you will hear is guards telling people off!

The room is also very busy.

However the artwork is fantastic. It is a breathtaking sight and well worth seeing.

The first direction given is to not take photos. Please respect that wish because you'll be constantly reminded and it'll be embarrassing to you to be removed for non-compliance.

The artwork is absolutely breathtaking so don't skip it during your visit.

It's close quarters during busy times so try to get close to a wall out of the way to spend a little time peering upwards.

We took a private tour which included the chapel and Basilica. Our tour guide explained about the history of the chapel and Michelangelo’s work before we went into the chapel as talking us not allowed in the chapel. This gave us the opportunity to be aware of the things she had pointed out. I would recommend any future visitors to be familiar with Michelangelo‘s work to better appreciate the ceiling! No photos allowed!

The Sistine chapel is simply a must see when in Rome. The Michelangelo ceiling and the Last Judgement are rightly considered to be the most perfect examples of religious artwork. We sat is awe of the artwork for a considerable amount of time. We also got an early entry ticket to get into the chapel as part of the first couple of groups and this meant that it was not very busy at all.

The Sistine Chapel is another example of what can be achieved with unlimited funds over 500 years. To appreciate its beauty it has to be seen to be believed.
The buildings around are amazing, and the trip to the chapel itself is stunning. The tapestries and the 135 metre map room are mind blowing in all kinds of ways.
There’s so much history here that it’s hard to comprehend, and so many amazing sculptures, paintings, textiles, floors, ceilings that it’s hard to take in.
Then there’s the ceiling of the chapel itself...

Defined worth going as part of a guided tour.

Wow. Seeing the painting in person is an experience I will never forget. You are told before hand absolute silence and no pictures, every few minutes one of the guards will rather loudly remind everyone of this so this can be very off putting. All in all, an amazing experience.

Last time I was here it was so crowded I could not really take it in properly. This time in a quieter season and a better time of day it was so wonderfully calm. The problem with writing reviews in Rome is that you run out of superlatives. Whatever anything else is this is just amazing, whatever your views or religion.

The crowd in the chappie is very dense, it’s very difficult to move around. Behind the building makes it difficult to see any of the details in the ceiling painting. The whole experience is then spoiled further by the attendants making constant loudspeaker announcements to “be quiet”, pot calling the kettle black!
