Owner description: Probably the most famous chapel in the world because of its incredible artwork, notably "The Last Judgment," Michelangelo's stunning fresco covering 10,000 square feet of the ceiling and wall.

“Don't wait in line”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

The lines are long. Buy you tickets online before you go then you bypass the wait.
Perhaps also try not going till late morning. By the time we exited, there was no line.

“Beautiful art”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

We visited on sat 15th Dec and not very crowded. (see my review of vatican museum). We were able to stand and enjoy the magnificent artwork without being jostled. The guards did ask the tourists to be quiet 2x. You would think that people would be more respectful. Some reviewers have complained about the guards doing this - but if they didnt I suppose the noise would eventually be deafening. Remember it is a place of worship and there is a dress code. Be warned that the guards will tell you not to photograph. I saw people trying to surreptitiously take photos with their mobiles to be told to put them away. Just dont do it. Try to move about the chapel to view the paintings from all angles. Dont just look at the ceiling!

“Conflicted: Beautiful but noisy & crowded.”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

The Chapel itself is amazing and should be seen. The art and chapel are magnificent. The ceiling art is incredible and thanks to our great tour guide who gave us a preview of it earlier to explain what Michelangelo spent over 4 years painting.

The atmosphere in this very popular tourist spot was insane. Sadly, people did not respect the church's wishes to be quiet and respectful. My husband and I did not take pictures as requested but people did all around us. The guards did not seem to do anything about it. They should limit how many people get to be in there at once. It was very crowded and unpleasant.

We were on our honeymoon and interested in seeing the major sites in Rome. The Vatican and all its wonders are definitely worth experiencing and seeing once in a lifetime.

“Breathtaking!”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

The most beautiful piece of artwork. take a tour to learn as much as you can about this breathtaking chapel! Please don't talk or whisper, it is a place of worship. And please don't be pushy and rude, there are 100's of people in the chapel at a time and very crowded....so try to be patient . . . it's a church . . . a beautiful, beautiful chapel in the Vatican.
