It is rare that I write a negative review - generally only if I feel someplace it being deceptive or neglectful. I'm not saying they was purposely deceitful but this place was a serious rip off! What is the most disapointing is this was the last day of our trip and were looking forward to some relaxation. Since we did not have an appointment for any spa services, the only option was the outdoor facilities which was fine with us. I believe it cost us about 35 euros entrance fee. So we get outside and the pools were dirty, half of them did not have any water in them and the ones that did were not warm at all - basically normal swimming pool temperature. So we decide to try to make the best of the situation and proceed to find some towels. Using their towels is a separate fee. We continue to try to make the best of the situation and find a place on the lounge chairs. Some ornery guy comes over and tries to tell us something but we could not understand because it was in italian. We finally found another customer who could translate and apparently sitting on the chairs is an additional fee! So almost 50 US dollars for dirty cold pool water and cannot even use their towels or sit in their chairs? I don't think so! so we proceed to get a refund - they were extremely reluctant but eventually gave it to us. the fact that they gave us the refund is the only reason why i gave them a rating of 2 instead of 1.

The Roman Empire was so far ahead of its time when it came to hygiene and health. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go back in time and experience a day at the Roman baths.

We booked an offer comprising of on night at the Victoria Terme Hotel, and two daily entrances to the thermae with one day of spa.

Let's start from the SPA by admittting I'm no big fan of hot, humid places.
The SPA has all you may want: sauna, turkish bath, two aroma-therapy showers (mint and orange), a big hydromassage pool with different kinds of jets at about 33°C, a vascular path comprising of a 40°C horseshoe-shaped pool with jets, and another cooling horseshoe-shaped pool at about 30°C; in the middle three pools, a couple deep with static water at 30°C one and 40°C the other for full immersion (the vascular path is just for the legs), and another at about 45°C with intense hydromassage.

This is what is comprised with the basic access to the SPA, all the other services are pay-as-you-go (massages, therapies, some require a medical check so get informed in advance).

Being in August the air was hot already, so I couldn't stand much the really hot pools, nor could I stand the sauna or the turkish bath for more than a few seconds, but I guess this is due to me being totally new to this (my father at 70 used to have a sauna once a week!); but the big waterjets pool (the one at 34°C) was really relaxing and I can surely recommend it.
The vascular path also was refreshing.

The beauty of the thing is that if you buy the access for both the SPA and the external pools, you can come and go as you wish!

So now onto the real attraction: the external pools.
These are really wonderful!
Imagine a big park, with little hills, trees, lots of grass, and in the middle 3 big pools and a gigantic one: all of them of thermal water!
Yes all external pools are filled with sulphur-full water!
The natural temperature of the spring, I read on the internet, is 23°C and you can feel that: after laying 20 minutes under the hot sun it's profoundly refreshing!

The park is really beautiful, a kind of oasis inside the town: you tend to forget you're 20 minutes from rome and inside another little town!
The park offers a bar/restaurant (can't comment on that), a frozen-yogurt bar and an icecream/general bar, plus toilets with showers, cabins, and sunbeds (which are not much use given the amount of grass there is where you can freely lay your beach-towel).

The park also contrasts with the SPA as that is in the basement of the SPA building (the upper floor is reserved to the gym) thus suffering a bit for the lack of light and the sounds roumbling off the ceiling, while the park is much more refreshing.

I really recommend giving the park a go, prices were 13€/workday and 17€/festiveday, while if you are into thermal waters and SPAs it that part surely merits your attention too, all the more beause you can take a pause in the park whenever you want!
