“Excellent - local to Consoli Independance and Hotel Amalia”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Excellent atmosphere inside and outside (heated so ok if its a bit chilly outside - we went in March and it was fine)
Waiters Alissandro and Paulo are remembered for being great.
The food is extremely good, with the roasted artichoke well worth sampling at least once!
The best meal we had in this restaurant, was where we ordered a full selection of the starters, instead of one main dish. This lasted the evening and the salads and such like are superb.
The lower end bottles of wine will set you back about 14 Euros, but take a tip and order the 1 litre Caraffe of house wine for 8 Euros which is very nice.
One final tip...
If it is your last evening there, probably best not to say, we did notice it was a tiny bit more expensive (May be our imagination though...)

“Excellent Vegetables, Good Pizza”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

I heard of isola from a local.

It is not far from the Vatican but a fair distance from Via del Corso and so it is frequented by locals and the price and value for money reflect this.

I had the anti pasti and pizza pasta and wine. The artichoke was one of the best I have ever had. The service was friendly and it is was almost full for lunch unlike many other restaurants given the state of the Italian economy. The pasta, however, was so so.

“Clean and Bright, tasty”
Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

Went for lunch, really liked the decor, nice atmosphere, food was tasty. Servings are very large, enough for 2. Enjoyed it. Dining area inside is surprisingly large. You have to admire the decor, especially when there is a 1965 Moto Guzzi motorcycle on the wall.

“Family visit”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Friendly staff good food, service and excellent wine would return on our next trip. Don't be worried about getting the extras you didn't order all restaurants will ask you about extras bread etc just say no thanks or return what you don't want ( we didn't get asked here but did in other restaurants and had no probs).

“Despite recommendation from local guide, not so much...”
Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

What is it with this uninvited spread of appetizers that magically appear on your table in Roman trattorias? Tonight's waiter at "Island o' Pizza" (shoulda known better, just from the name,) to be fair, did offer the bountiful spread, but when we initially turned him down, he got pissy. We relented, and, much to our chagrin, we were treated to a seemingly unending parade of strange and for the most part, awful appetizer dishes. Plates of giant white beans in cold, bland tomato sauce, mushy sautéed spinach, over-cooked, cold zucchini, grated cabbage "slaw," mystery meat/fish salad in mayonnaise, pizza bread, cold, deep-fried zucchini blossoms filled with anchovies, and the piece de resistance, deep-fried "Jewish" artichokes that looked like villains from Star Trek -- all pointy and villainous. To be fair, the four slices of prosciutto and two small balls of buffalo mozzarella were perfectly fine, but at a place that charges 4€ for a half liter of wine and 8€ or so for a big pizza or plate of pasta, the 20€ tab for this bevy of yuck was just not okay.

While we intended to eat pizza as our main course, after all the starters (which we managed to choke down about half of) we could only manage an additional small pasta dish each, both of which were disappointing.

The final insult to injury was our waiter's failure to return the ten € we were due as change. And while we would have left it as a tip, to have our intent assumed was inappropriate. Can only assume to tour guide who recommended this joint was on the dole.
