Our friends who live in Rome organized dinner here on our last night in the city. We were a mix of adults and kids, so we ordered a variety of food--excellent antipasti, and then our main courses. We had several types of hams and cheeses, flatbreads, and artichokes (in season), and then I had a delicious lasagna. I am not sure whether we had room for dessert! The location is cozy, with huge candles covered in wax drippings. The restaurant is owned by a famous soccer player, so there are many, many pictures of soccer matches all over the place--a draw for kids and adults alike. Service was friendly and attentive.

Roma, bella Roma and food is part of the experience. Look for best Roman food. Friendly stuff, too much food :) and divine tiramisu.
Highly recommended!

For the second consecutive year we made La Villetta dal 1940 the first lunch stop on our holiday to immediately immerse ourselves in Rome. We were not disappointed. Despite it being around 1.30pm and not having a reservation (be warned, the restaurant does close on weekdays in the afternoon, in February/March at least) we were ushered to a lovely, spacious table. La Villetta dal 1940 is a classic old school family restaurant that attracts more locals than tourists and judging by the impressively decorated walls a lot of actors, musicians and AFC Roma footballers, including the legendary Francesco Totti. He only ever played for one club, still putting a decent shift in at 40, and evidently had a similar loyalty to his favourite venue for a post-match Carbonara and Chianti. Dustin Hoffman was also on the wall, pictured smiling and flanked by two of the attentive, friendly but cool waiters who were now busy smoothly making sure every table had all it needed.

Taking Totti’s lead, we ordered two ravioli alla Romana, stuffed with flavoursome pork and two gigantic bowls of Carbonara. We had the house red and white (both were excellent) and rounded the meal off with small glasses of the vaguely medicinal Vecchio Amaro de Capo. A perfect start to our holiday; we were last to leave the restaurant. We enjoyed it so much that this time it was also our last meal of the holiday. For take 2 we enjoyed unbelievably excellent marinaded Roman artichokes, pork and linguine marinara followed by Copa Villeta and tiramisu. It must have been good as by the end of the evening the chef was introduced to us for much merited applause in praise of his mastery of the artichoke. The restaurant was ideal for our last night in Rome, buzzing with conversations and the eternal Roman promise of return, we will certainly be back!

Really good Pizza. The best one in my 4-days trip in Rome. I manage to order wrong type of pizza, and the waiter came with a new pizza for me, free of charge! Excellent service.
