“Italy and Sicily a great place to visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

It is the most beautiful, memorable city in the world and much to do or see there. You can spend many days there. I have been there 4 times & would love to go back, maybe because I am Italian. I have been there with family & friends & they all loved it as much as me.

“The Vatican and Pope Benedict XVI- 01.08.2012”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013

Neglected to review but figured with all that is happening there, thought I would post pictures of our day trip to Rome. Surprised us by being there on Sunday and saw crowd gathering for a Sunday blessing, who knew? Was actually pretty amazing to witness.

“Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

Our tour guide ( i forgot her name!) was excellent at making the paintings and sculptures come to life. She was an art history major, so she had a passion for art, and it came through in her descriptions. It was awesome being able to skip the lines to get into the vatican museum--there was about a 3-hour wait. My only disappointment was not being able to visit St. Peter's Cathedral. It closed early due to the New's Year Eve holiday.

“Hilltop Heaven!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We chose the Etruscan countryside tour (Orvieto and Citta de Bagnoreggio) which commences from Rome's Central Station (Termini). After a train short journey to Orvieto, we met our guide Luca, who was a fabulous host with a wealth of knowledge and valuable insights about his local area. His introductions to the local people in addition to the sights were a feature often missing on much larger, less personalised tours.

Our first stop at Orvieto was a precipitous drive to the hilltop town, with a breathtaking view. The Orvieto caves (a separate tour) was a real highlight into how the Etruscans lived. The ancient well shafts and pigeon breeding caves were truly amazing! Up on the surface, the Orvieto cathedral and town were also truly breathtaking!

After a spectacular drive, a locally inspired lunch at 'The Old Mill' in Lubriano was outstanding, and hit the spot for the next visit to Citta di Bagnoreggio. After meeting more locals, the view of (and from) Citta was simply amazing. Stone walls, cobblestones, lane ways with friendly cats and green gardens. We finished the visit with a great expresso and zambucca at a local Citta cafe, before being dropped back in Orvieto, to catch the train back to Rome.

Luca's local knowledge combined with sensational countryside and warm hospitality made Rome Walk's Etruscan Countryside tour a true highlight of our stay in Italy.

For those tired of the mass tourism approach often encountered in Italy, this tour is highly recommended!

“Be excited by antiquity...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

We only had one morning free in Rome and booked a 3 hour guided tour of Ancient Rome with 'Rome Walks'. The reviews looked good, and when we rang the English number, the response was friendly and helpful. The company is small and this showed in the personal and attentive service. We booked at less than 24 hours notice, and when we arrived ten minues early at the meeting point, the guide was already there. There were only 6 people in the group (max 12). Our guide, Paul, was an American, now living and working in Rome, and the fact he was English speaking made what he said maximally accessible. He was friendly, articulate, extremely knowledgable and often quite funny and in spite of heavy rain for the second half of the tour, he was able to hold our interest throughout. We left feeling stimulated rather than exhausted. If anyone is afraid that Ancient Rome is a dead subject like the Latin language, rest assured that this is not the case. A guide like ours is able to bring the stones to life and spirit you into the life and practices of the ancient city in an unforgettable way.
