“A delightful surprise : fab food and wine away from the hordes”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

In the parliamentary precinct of Rome, but not in the crowded streets this little gem is attractive. It has great salads, pizza and tasting plates. A reasonable wine list too. All under shade cloth and on hot days the fans blow a nice cool mist to make the repast more enjoyable. Oh! and they really do have a selection of Mozzarella to try - its worth it.

“A nice place a little bit out of the worst crowds”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

A nice place in the heart of rome, but still away from the worst crowds. Certainly much nicer than the other "Obika" at Campo de Fiori. The idea of serving a "tasting selection" of different mozzarella's as first course is great, we enjoyed it very much. I can certainly recommend that you take a little walk from the Pantheon of Piazza Navona, and choose this place over the most touristic places at the surroundings of the before mentioned attractions.

“Delicious pizza and excellent house wine”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

The location was lovely, tucked away in the middle center of old rome. The tomatoes and mozzarella were fresh and flavorful. The house white was crisp and flavorful.

Unlike most Americans who visit the Eternal City, we live here half the year and have for nearly two decades. We own an apartment, speak Italian fluently and dress and act in a way that is consonant with the conservative Roman ethos. Over the years, we've eaten at far more restaurants than we could ever recall and our dining experiences have, more often than not, been quite good, if not always spectacular.

In past experiences at Obika, we've noted the slow and somewhat erratic service problems, but shrugged them off because the food is acceptable and the price not prohibitive. That said, over our last few visits, the service has continued to degrade until today when we experienced what unquestionably was the WORST treatment we have ever received in an Italian restaurant.

Apparently, the wait staff at Obika is chosen more for their ability to strike a pose or shift some attitude than for doing the simple, if unglamorous job of taking and serving orders. While we were quickly seated at a table in the uncrowded patio, it nevertheless took more than ten minutes to receive a menu and then not with any special courtesy. I suppose we could have forgiven that long wait if we'd ever had the expectation of seeing our waiter again, but then he spent the next twenty minutes assiduously doing everything he could to avoid us and/or our vicinity. He was a very busy boy clearing off empty tables, chit-chatting with other (unoccupied) colleagues and generally looking as off-put and over-stressed as he could manage. As noted, we lasted twenty minutes in our frozen place of solitude before 'getting the idea' and making a quick, if not especially noble exit to a restaurant that actually wanted our custom.

What's the take away (if you'll excuse the phrase)? If you are a visitor in Rome, whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM THIS JOINT unless you take some bizarre and masochistic pleasure in being treated poorly and receiving large doses of Roman attitude. If you are a resident, same advices applies but in spades because it is even more insulting and unnecessarily bruta figura!
