The Sunday after Thanksgiving in Italy is a time to have an unfettered meal with good pasta and good wine.
This was our experience on Sunday the 1st of December at Ristorante Maccheroni. in the Eternal City.

Superb dish of pasta under a black truffle sauce and done to perfection.
House red was close to excellent.

We got to this place due to its nice reviews...Well no idea where this restaurant gets all the positives from. It was one of our worst pasta of our life. Not only that we had to return one main pasta dish, as it was undercooked (nothing to do with italian pasta al dente, this was seriously uncooked), the pasta was also floating in fat without any special taste. Our stomachs felt heavy even after 2 hours of eating. Wine was average and in case you are looking for a tourist attraction you are just correct here. Other than that the staff was kind of friendly, nothing in particular. Price was expensive, but I guess reasonable with Rome's standards... DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED

I was here with a local, lucky for me so it seems judging by the reviews below - no problems with our service at all.
I wanted cacio e pepe and although it wasn't on the menu, they made it for us and it was perfect. If only I could get it to taste like this at home.
This place was absolutely jumping with locals, families and very few tourists - I knew this because we were seated in the doorway and saw everyone who came in - not that this was a bad thing - it was a top spot for watching everyone. Italians are so elegant - it was a Saturday night and everyone looked beautiful.
Loved this place - can't wait to go back.

The restaurant is a connershop in the centre of Rome, 1 min walk from Pantheon. While it looks small from outside it is huge inside mainly because of the cellar where main dining room is.
Everythin is very simple and basic, for instance they serve filter watter by default unless you insist on a branded bottle, even sparkling watter is made in house. But the same time it is not too simple, the tables are propperly covered with white cloths, good cutlerry, wooden tables all clean. Price are very moderate pasta prices from 6 to 16 euro.
Service is efficient and quick.
Food was great while they have full menu, we were recommended this restaurant as a pasta place and it really is. The pasta is delicious we ate trofi with truf and it was fantastic. The best pasta ever. Been there 3 times -- always great.
