“Very good, contemporary cuisine”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

In a contemporay decor, a very nice and delicate cuisine, creative and light, tasty dishes. Very good wine list, very good wine service and staff.
Worth the visit. Ordered the pagliaccio tasting menu, with 8 dishes and pairing wines.
Some wonderful combinations and surprising dishes, such as the zafferano mezzaluna pre dessert, the montepulciano passito dessert wine, the fig dessert, the oyster dish.

“Excellent 4 hours long diner”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

As a part of wining and dining weekend in Rome, we end up at Il Pagliaccio (you need to book well in advance to enjoy one of ten or twelve tables) - excellent choice. A modern cuisine with italian twist - we went for degustation menu, so long and complexe, in a positive sense, that you can barely list all meals when leaving the restaurant. The menu change all the time, depending on chef humor and your own preference - we have indicated some items from a la carte menu we wanted to try and they were included in our tasting (do not miss sweetbreads nor foie gras). Excellent service, true to a two start restaurant and very good sommelier, helping to navigate through a thick and well built wine list.
Clearly not a lunch place but excellent choice for a lengthy diner !

“Nice surprise in Rome”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We were not sophisticated: we looked for Michelin restaurants near our hotel in Rome. This was around the corner from the St George. We had a 12 :30 reservation. We were simple-minded. We turned up at 12:30 and the door was locked. The opening hours on the door are from 13:00. The sign is wrong: ring the door bell and they let you in! It was the warmest Roman welcome we had in a week's holiday. We had a great lunch on a Thursday afternoon. The food is lovely. We went a la carte since we now find eight course tasting menus too much. The revelation for us was the wines that we drank. We often say that the Italians keep their best wines to themselves - we are now convinced that this is true. The sommelier was great and his suggestions were just right for our food and our budget. We liked lunch enough that we booked for dinner the next day. The food and wine were just as good! I must admit that we liked the food & wine just as much for dinner on a Friday night. If we had to choose, we would go for a quiet, weekday lunch instead of a busy Friday dinner. Either way, we don't think you can go wrong here. The service was friendly but not intrusive, the food was lovely and, if you want to try Italian wines that you don't get in the UK, then you should try this place. It deserves its Michelin star.

“Enjoyed it”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We had the 8 course tasting menu. I did feel that one of the courses was less than amazing. However, the meal as a whole was fantastic. There were some dishes that were really very special. It was pretty expensive, but in my home city of New York, a tasting menu from a two Michelin star restaurant can be quite a bit pricier.

The service was good.

“The worst hour and a half of my two week trip to Italy...and the most expensive”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

I'm from NYC...lots of experience with overpriced, pretentious restaurants...this was worse than all of them. Very limited menu with misleading descriptions of pretty but tiny and not good-tasting dishes. Through-the-roof prices. Attentive service but no character at all.
