I have just reviewed the Hotel Splendide Royal where this restaurant is located and given it top marks. Given this, and given we visited Mirabelle on Christmas day for dinner our expectations were high. On the positive side the restaurant has a beautiful location with commanding views over Rome. This is especially the case during the day and early evening when you can watch the sunset. It is a lovely space, although the tables a little close for this type of restaurant, and beautifully decorated with fresh flowers, and on this occasions elegant Christmas decorations.
The quality of the courses varied and unfortunately the soufflés were a disaster - even though we had waited about 40 minutes after our main course. We did not mind the wait, but we thought the result was something that one would not even serve at home to family and friends. How this was allowed to leave the kitchen I do not know. This is not the quality of cuisine that will earn a star! The hotel concierge did report this to the restaurant manager who sent his apologies. But too late!
The other negative was the staff's failure to enforce a perfectly reasonable dress code for this style of restaurant. Why bother with a dress code if it's not going to be enforced? This can only mean that the $$$ is seen by management as more important than the reputation of the restaurant.
I don't wish to leave the reader with a totally negative view, but given the prices, I think Mirabelle needs to lift its game. I would be prepared to give it a second shot some time - maybe when there is less pressure on them to meet the demand of festive celebrations.
