“Great dinner, Fantastic service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

This resto had been suggested to us by the owner of the apartment we rented. She said to make a reservation as it books early so we did. After booking we decided to check it out on TA and read the reviews. Once reading the reviews we almost cancelled our booking but decided to give it a try anyway. Wow, are we glad we did !! this is not your run of the mill tourist resto. It is obvious this they know what they are doing and have been around for quite some time. Our waiter was so sweet and fun and the food was great! He started by bringing our table of 6 a small pizza to share with our wine. We ordered the antipasti plate and buffalo mozz. for starters. The antipasti was SO GOOD! We all had various entrees and all were very fresh and tasty. We decided or order a few desserts to share as well. The terimisu was very good but make sure you only order if you really like coffee. When they bring it to your table it is presented in a very nice tall glass and a side of coffee that the waiter pours into the glass for you. The millefeuille was also very nice. Light and not too sweet. After dinner we were brought a plate of biscotti and were even given a sampling of a very nice dessert wine to wrap up our meal. I cannot say enough about what a wonderful time we had here tonight !!

“Always a great place for true roman food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Il Matriciano is still one of the most traditional roman place I know in the Prati beighbourough. I would really reccommend this place for very traditional food and traditional ambience. Nothing fancy but truly roman. Try the matriciana, but also the "puntarelle"! Also great tiramisu' Il Matriciano style

“STILL VERY GOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

We returned to Il Matriciano after an absence of six months to see if sitting inside in the winter it was still as good. Luckily we had booked (Sunday lunch) as the place was completely full of local families and buzzing. Nonetheless the welcome and service were charming and as efficient as we remembered. We were given their famous artichoke dish as a complimentary starter, so really didn't need the excellent mixed antipasta! Then we had the rigatoni carbonara (not quite as historic as the tagliatelle carbonara of last time) and the tortellini funghi porcini (good but not creamy enough). We rounded off with the amazing tiramisu and had enjoyed a good and reasonably priced bottle of wine. So, not quite the "wow" factor of our first visit, but still one of our favourite places in Rome.

“Stay away ”

Too comercial. Smelly plates and glasses made the experience really unpleasant. We ordered two soups two glasses of wine and 1 spagetti for 50 euros.

“Wonderful Food and Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

I ate lunch at Il Matriciano yesterday. The service was exceptional. I love having nice men running around in white suits. It makes me feel fabulous. The food was perfectly plated and just the right portion size. My Carciofi alla Romana was tender and had just the right amount of olive oil (some restaurants really over drench them.) My pasta (something with olives and capers... similar to puttanesca) was also delicious and perfectly cooked. I highly recommend the tiramisu to end your meal. When my husband arrives next week I will bring him here for sure.
