Nice restaurant, cosy outdoor serving. The food is nice, not fantastic but more than average! Some traffic outside, that's a bit interfering.

We had visited Il Bacaro two years ago with my daughter who was working in Rome at the time; it was an excellent evening enjoyed by all three of us and as a result we booked it again recently. The setting was still the same; in the backstreet between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, dark and cosy under the umbrellas while the rain hammered down! But that was not the problem, nor the pleasant waitress who served us. We had such fond memories of the lovely food we had enjoyed before, it was a real disappointment when my daughter's starter (prawns) and my main (pasta, prawns, truffle oil etc.) were fishy, lacking in flavour, and totally unremarkable. To be fair, my starter was ok - goats cheese - and her main of gnocchi was pleasant enough. But we were expecting the excellence of our previous visit and the wine (very pleasant red from Northern Italy) and the street ambience did not make up for the ordinaryness of the cuisine. Sadly we probably wont go there again.

We have recommended Bacaro to friends for many years but haven't had a chance to eat their ourselves in over 10 years since we are always home with family. This year we went with our 2 teenage children and had a fantastic meal! The service very friendly and informative, helping select a nice Brunello to pair with our meal. We started with a special Caprese with pesto which was excellent along with a Tomino cheese with wild mushrooms - Yum! Then to some great pasta dishes - fresh pasta cacio pepe, vermicelli gricia with asparagus and more. We all enjoyed the varietal change from typical italian sauces. My daughter and husband shared a tender filet wrapped in italian bacon served with a fried egg. Great meal, friendly service. Will continue to recommend this small quiet restaurant in the center of Rome!

This restaurant is gives you the best quality for your money, especially if you avail the occasionally available discounts (groupon, glamoo, poinx, etc). The restaurant is in a quiet area, but very near Pantheon and Piazza Navona. The staff are very professional and the service is excellent. The menu are have the typical italian character, but enhanced by the chef's own creativity. Obviously, the ingredients and materials are fresh and well selected. The wine selection is superb. This place is highly recommendable.

We had our first dinner of the trip at Il Bacaro. What a great experience. The ambiance was nice and romantic and the pasta with truffles was terrific. We had some baked appetizer and a desert (a strawberry tiramisu) that were both a bit off but the experience was great overall. In fact, we liked it so much we decided to go back for a second night. What a disappointment! People say you can’t really judge a restaurant until you’ve been there at least twice. Well, the seafood pasta I ordered had the worst fishy taste I’ve had in a seafood dish and my boyfriend’s dish was also unappealing. We left to have the second plate somewhere else. So, I think Bacaro is certainly a nice place but it is not very consistent and their menu is a bit of a hit or miss. I do recommend the truffle dish.
