This is one of the best hotels in which I have ever stayed (and I have stayed in many, across the world).

From first contact to departure we were treated brilliantly. Before we left England the hotel got in touch about transport from airport to the Residenza. We were given clear information and prices. When our flight was delayed by nearly 6 hours the reception staff, who were tracking the flight, ensured that the driver was there, right on time, to drive us into Rome at one of the busiest times of the day. We know that both he and the reception staff were late home because of our lateness. But they could not have been more courteous and helpful.

This kind of treatment continued throughout our two day stay. As a result of being helped to know where was best to go and how to get there, we made the best of our limited time.

The Residenza itself is beautifully, if somewhat quirkily, presented. The room was comfortable, spacious and well-equipped. Given that it is in a cramped, but very attractive location it is amazing how well the space has been used. Residenza Santa Maria is an oasis of tranquillity in Trastavere, which is a very lively area, full of fantastic eating and drinking places and street entertainment. (Check out the break-dancer!)

This was a 5 star experience that we will never forget. And, if we can, we will return.

This is such a quaint little hotel in the chaotic city of Rome. My wife and I stayed here our last night to unwind. Trastevere is less touristy then other parts. This hotel was perfect for wrapping up our 2 week Italy trip. The staff, Hussain (forgive me if I misspell your name) gave us such a warm greeting and suggested a restaurant for our last supper. The room was clean and comfy. Breakfast was good. Only complaint was that the bed was a little hard. Hussain had prearranged our transport to the airport, royal treatment. I definitely will stay here again.

I usually stay in big name hotels, but wanted to stay near my friend who lives in Trastevere, so we found this little hotel which had great reviews. Rightly so. I was nervous anyway, but our warm welcome and delicious coffee put my fears at ease right away. Our room was surprisingly spacious, clean and well appointed. The breakfast buffet was yummy and included eggs as well as cereals, fruit, pastries, yoghurt, and more! But the best was the great coffee served by our smiling barista each day! On the last day when I was packing and didn't have time for a second cup, she brought one to my room!! Next time in Rome we will definitely stay in this well located, six room gem in the heart of Trastevere.

A very nice little cosy hotel in the heart of Trastevere, nice breakfast and comfortable rooms. Nice staff always with a smile and able to suggest a good tour to Gianicolo, nice walk up to a fantastic view point on all Rome.

I just missed real duvets/blankets, like we sleep with in scandinavia. But I know it is common in Italy to sleep without "piumini"! But with that in future Residenza Santa Maria would be just PERFECT.

We found our stay very enjoyable. The place is charming with a few lovely sitting rooms to relax in. The breakfast was among the best we had in any B & B's or larger hotels. I think because they seem to care so much. The staff is especially warm and helpful. The way they all work together to create the best experience possible is very evident. It felt like family by the time we left.

Fantastic location in Trasevere, where all the good bars and restaurants are no more than a 5 minute walk after a long day on your feet doing the hard core tourist stuff. All the major tourist attractions in Rome and the Vatican are walkable from the hotel, and navigation is easy. The staff are brilliant: friendly and all speak great English. The breakfast was the best we had in our multi city trip around Italy, with a very personal touch each morning, great coffee and a varied menu. We loved it and would definitely return again.

Room Tip: Room 1 gets Wi-Fi in the room,: apparently others do not and have to use the lobby area outside room...

We stayed at Residenza pre and post travelling from Rome to Croatia, Venice and Florence. The location is perfect - we only stay in Trastevere when in Rome because we love to be within walking distance of the main sights but away from the crawling hordes of tourists across the river. We love the vibe of Trastevere, the cafes, the winding alleys and this beautiful, quiet, comfortable hotel. The showers are the best we had on the trip. Last time in Rome we stayed at their sister hotel and loved it - Residenza was just as lovely with bigger rooms. On our return to Rome we let ourselves in using the door code and it truly felt like coming home. Staff are friendly and helpful, airport transfers arranged by the hotel were excellent and we will definitely stay here next time we're in Rome.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Residenza San Calisto ( previously know Residenza Santa Maria), is a small exclusive Hotel de charme, located I the heart of Rome, just a stone's from the magnificent and picturesque square of Santa Maria in Trastevere. This boutique Hotel is the result of the skilful restoration of a 17th century building. The whole house is dominated by brick arches, wooden ceilings, artistic hand painted frescos and wall decorations which give to the Residenza Santa Maria an atmosphere of refined elegance. With only 6 rooms, the Residenza Santa Maria is somewhat smaller than its namesake which allows for even greater atmosphere, notwithstanding the fact that having only recently opened it is also equipped with high tech environment. The large and quite, no smoking, rooms, some of which family rooms, are fully equipped with private bathroom with tub and shower, A/C, telephone, mini-bar, safe, satellite flat panel TVs, free internet connection, boiler for tea/coffee and other amenities. In the breakfast room, once a Roman cistern of the II cen. BC, decorated by original ancient Roman artifacts found on site during restoration of the building, guests can enjoy a rich and delicious buffet breakfast, (scramble or boiled eggs, ham, cheese, salami, fresh bread, assortment of biscuits, cakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, fresh croissants, selection of fruit juices etc.). Thanks to great location, from the Residenza Santa Maria, guests can easily reach the main tourist sites like Campo de' Fiori, Navona Square, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi's fountain, the Roman Forum and Coliseum with just a relaxing stroll through a maze of fascinating medieval streets. The Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Square are a few minutes away. Furthermore Trastevere, apart from the beauty of its mediaeval narrow little streets, is filled with typical restaurants, markets, pubs and cafes. The Residenza Santa Maria also offers services like transfer to and from the airport, private guided tours, laundry service, shiatsu massage, beauty centre, baby sitting service and car and scooter hire, as well as offering free use of bikes to its personal guests. ... more   less
