In a city of constant activity this refuge, lovely hotel is a real find. Everyone was delightful always with a sense of humor and willingness to help. Location, as others have commented, is in the heart of Trastevere and in easy walking to bus if need to cross the river. The experience at this hotel will remain one of the highlights of our already wonderful trip to Italy!!

We were sent to this hotel by the cocierge at Hotel Santa Maria, also in the Trastevere area. The Hotel Santa Maria let us park our car there since it is quite dificult to find a spot on the street. We were pleasantly surprised with Residenza Santa Maria. Great location right in the heart of Trastevere, yet I did not find that the streets were noisy at night.Awesome breakfast!!! Giovanna, the lady at the front desk, is amazing, she helped us with our reservations for the Vatican tour and also with reservations for Florence. The room was very nice. Great bathroom, large towels, and an awesome shower. I would come back here in a heartbeat!

This quaint hotel is the only place to stay in Rome.

Spacious clean rooms (good showers!) , great service (Giovanna is so helpful and one of the nicest people ever!!), and the price was fair for the best location in Trastevere.

Located just off the main strips and right down the street from one of the best cafes in Rome, Bar San Calisto. This cafe is not only where the locals hang but it also has the best gelato in all of Rome...so much better than Giolotti! It's a great place to people watch.

You are also within walking distance of all the main attractions- the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, and the Isola. Quite spectacular!

When I come back to Rome I will definitely be coming back to the Residenza Santa Maria. Thanks for a wonderful visit!

We had a wonderful stay at the Residenza Santa Maria - the hotel is in a fantastic location, the room was a good size with comfortable beds, sound proofing, air conditioning and an excellent shower, etc, the hotel also has two public rooms. There is an excellent restaurant next door and the hotel is walking distance from many of Rome's beautiful sights. The only reason I'm giving 4 rather than 5 stars is that the breakfast was a bit disappointing (too many packet-ed cakes but the coffee was good!).

We stayed several nights at the Residenza Santa Maria. We used TripAdvisor ratings as our reason for booking our stay here. They did not disappoint. There was a small issue with our reservation; however, the staff went WAY Beyond any expectations to right the miscommunication and really made sure that we were taken care of. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Rome area. We were on the outskirts of the busy city, but within walking distance. This allowed us to enjoy all the sites of Rome, without all the noise and commotion.

Thank you Residenza Santa Maria!!!

This small hotel is located in a very lively and authentic part of ancient Rome, situated in Trastevere, accross the Tiber but near enough to all the beatifull sights. There is a tramway at a few minutes walk but we made splendid walks just from this hotel. Nice and clean room, friendly staff and a good breakfast, although we would have liked less sweets and more good healthy bread. We wish this nice hotel many successful years with guests from all over the world!

The Residenza San Calisto ( previously know Residenza Santa Maria), is a small exclusive Hotel de charme, located I the heart of Rome, just a stone's from the magnificent and picturesque square of Santa Maria in Trastevere. This boutique Hotel is the result of the skilful restoration of a 17th century building. The whole house is dominated by brick arches, wooden ceilings, artistic hand painted frescos and wall decorations which give to the Residenza Santa Maria an atmosphere of refined elegance. With only 6 rooms, the Residenza Santa Maria is somewhat smaller than its namesake which allows for even greater atmosphere, notwithstanding the fact that having only recently opened it is also equipped with high tech environment. The large and quite, no smoking, rooms, some of which family rooms, are fully equipped with private bathroom with tub and shower, A/C, telephone, mini-bar, safe, satellite flat panel TVs, free internet connection, boiler for tea/coffee and other amenities. In the breakfast room, once a Roman cistern of the II cen. BC, decorated by original ancient Roman artifacts found on site during restoration of the building, guests can enjoy a rich and delicious buffet breakfast, (scramble or boiled eggs, ham, cheese, salami, fresh bread, assortment of biscuits, cakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, fresh croissants, selection of fruit juices etc.). Thanks to great location, from the Residenza Santa Maria, guests can easily reach the main tourist sites like Campo de' Fiori, Navona Square, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi's fountain, the Roman Forum and Coliseum with just a relaxing stroll through a maze of fascinating medieval streets. The Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Square are a few minutes away. Furthermore Trastevere, apart from the beauty of its mediaeval narrow little streets, is filled with typical restaurants, markets, pubs and cafes. The Residenza Santa Maria also offers services like transfer to and from the airport, private guided tours, laundry service, shiatsu massage, beauty centre, baby sitting service and car and scooter hire, as well as offering free use of bikes to its personal guests. ... more   less
