“Sorry...will not stay here again.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

I feel compel to write this review, to give those that would want to stay in this property to consider the pros and cons.

My family did not choose this hotel but was assigned by Insight Vacations, which happened to have a business relationship with it.

1. Greeted by dirty, soiled and barely red carpet as you entered the revolving door.

2. Beautiful fountain ahead, with well decorated lobby on the left. Ventured further into it revealed comfortable seats and a few up to date magazines for reading pleasure.

3. Main enterance to the right were the always smiley receptionists that gave good information on the
surrounding.

4. There were 2 lifts, 1 relatively bigger than the other. With bulky luggages, the smaller one would not fit.

5. The room assinged to us had poor air circulation. Due to "winter season" (@ 15 degree celsius during the day), the air conditioner can only function as fan or heater. We were left with no choice, kept the windows opened but that invited mosquitos to visit the room!

6. The shower area was equipped with a welcoming "rain & body" showering facility. However the spoiler ahead was a very choaked drainage that quickly flooded the basin. The sliding shower door was also half hanging as if it would fall off in no time.

7. We also noticed the room did not have tissue box provided, just toilet rolls.

8. There was also no self service coffee and tea making facility provided.

9. Beware of the wooden wall skirting as well. There were small nails protruding and my kid cut her heel accidentally.

10. Breakfast was included as part of the tour arrangement however the hot food (essentially bacon and scrambled egg) were controlled items with a waiter stood by the side guarding the food.

8.

Dear Alex,

Thank you so much for your feedback posted on TripAdvisor and for choosing Hotel Romanico Palace!

I am sorry to hear you that you were unhappy with your recent experience, as a team we always strive to leave only the very best impression with all our guests and I am disappointed that this was not the case.

We accept your criticism because when reviews are genuine and constructive are always welcome, they help us to understand the way to improve and correct our faults.

Our carpet are tested and classified in accordance with the European standard EN 1307 for testing and classification of textile floor covering. It made from an old company in Florence, which it has received numerous accolades for the ancient art manufacturing, the white of our coat of arms blends in a sublime way with the Pompeian red.

We are very proud of our level of cleanness, which is generally rated by all of our customers between 4 and 5 (out of five), but with an average of 200 customers a day and so there may be a problem that we solve the common areas but unfortunately it can reproduce.

It’s very important to remember that the hotel occupies an ancient palace of 1887, we have 2 elevators for guest use, which is normally sufficient for guest traffic and I can only deduct that we must have had an elevator out for a short period of time or that there was an unusually high guest demand.

With the advent of the low season we are making all these changes to structural and architectural with the usual rhythms and full turnout is impossible to make, replace the small elevator with one of the latest generation is not simple but it is one of the things that within a couple months will be made for example.

I’m really sorry for the absence of coffee or tea facilities but unfortunately Italian law doesn’t let to provide this service for security reasons.

Breakfast is our strength because it isn’t just a meal but an emotion that we want to give you with the amazing location, from our panoramic roof garden you enjoyed a breathtaking view on the city's historical heritage.

Eggs with bacon are expressly made at the time of the request, to maintain their exquisite taste and flavor, so it is necessary that there is an attendant who takes the orders and he is responsible for checking that everything is OK.

I am pleased that you were impressed with our staff and that that the personal nature of our service was a highlight, we want to ensure that every guest is cared for as an individual and feel welcome and at home.

The key lies in having a wonderful team of individuals who are not only service minded but who genuinely love and smile what they do and ultimately really care.

The structural flaws can modify, change, renew, instead the human element is one that is hard to find and is able to make a difference.

Only through insightful comments such as yours can we constantly strive to improve our operation and thank you for taking the time to pass these on to me.

I would welcome the opportunity to have you as our guest again and if I can ever be of any assistance in the future please do let me know.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Alessandro

Unsure why there is bad reviews for this hotel...The room was clean, comfortable and pretty much all you need for a room that you will spend barely any time in when you're in Rome and comes with its own safe which is handy. Shower and bathroom were excellent. Breakfast was good with a wide selection for a continental breakfast. Location was good due the hotel being a 5 minute walk from the nearest Metro station and around 10-15 minutes from the Trevi Fountain. Seems that the hotel is in a fairly nice part of Rome with plenty of reasonably priced restaurants only a few minutes walk away, didn't feel unsafe or uneasy in the area surrounding the hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. Only downside was the early morning noise of the traffic but I suppose that cant be helped. Overall I would more than recommend staying here especially if you just want a nice room, and wonderful shower, to come back to after a day of sight seeing.

Dear Joseph,

Thank you for choosing us for your recent Christmas break, I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and i'm very happy that now we are your first choice in Rome!

Your brilliant feedback is not only very encouraging for us, but it is a further proof that there are people (like the one above) who criticize our hotel for economic and dishonest interests that unfortunately have polluted this website.

I am thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us and that our décor, design, rooms are with frescoes and decorations on the walls, carved headboards, paintings, created to impress our guest. They are treated every day with passion and represent the symbol of style and welcome of the Romanico Palace Hotel.

Our panoramic roof garden with a breathtaking view on the majesty of Rome is the right response for a sweet awakening: quality food and a large variety of products (homemade cakes, fresh seasonal fruit, organic jams, stuffed croissants, salty foods, products for people with gluten allergy).

The hotel’s amazing location in the heart of Rome is indeed well placed for tourism being a stone’s throw away from many major sights and fashionable shopping area.

Relaxing walks along the green colors of Villa Borghese, exciting emotions looking Spanish Steps, a masterpiece of the baroque art style, the unprecedented beauty of Trevi Fountain, inspired by Roman triumphal arches.

To hear that you felt special, genuinely welcome and truly at home from the moment you arrived and throughout your stay is absolute music to my ears. We want all our guests to enjoy genuine home away from home experiences and your positive feedback is incredibly encouraging for us as a team.

Thank you for recommending us so highly and for taking the time to write and tell others about your experience.

It was a pleasure to have you with us and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Best regards

The above reviewer is right on target. We stayed for a pre-cruise two nights and other than no check - in problems since we arrive late afternoon, it was exactly the same experience plus: the hand-held shower head holder was coming apart and would not secure the shower head. It fell on my wife's foot. it would only shower down towards the front of the tub when left in place. Request(s) for repair resulted in nothing. Were told the AC could not be adjusted below 22C once they got the entire floor working again. Same experience with keys limited to one for (security reasons-really?) but no problem getting another when we told them we locked first one in room. Told by senior front desk staff that six-passenger taxis did not exist. When we told him we arrived in one set up by the hotel he finally made a call and had no trouble securing one. Carpets at elevator landings are badly stained from careless guests, but hey, hotels require maintenance and replacements. Cost of doing business. Yes, Windstar - this hotel is an embarrassment for a first class cruise line to use. You can do better even if you have to give up a little profit for the package.

Dear Guest,

We are vey sorry to hear you that you were unhappy with your recent experience, as a team we always strive to leave only the very best impression with all our guests and I am disappointed that this was not the case.

Our apologies for the problem with the shower, however in this case the greatest regret to me is to learn about that on Tripadvisor, as we did not receive ANY remark from you during stay. It's hard to understand why you did not express your disappointment while here, our attentive staff would have promptly replied to all of your questions and solved all little inconveniences.

Talking of all kinds of problems you may face during your stay, it is advisable to contact directly our reception which is at your service h24 and assist you without hesitation. Competent technicians rush over to solve the inconvenient immediately.

The fact that we give you only one key card is for the restriction of our key machine, if we create a double key, the first doesn’t work , however there is a porter 24h that is at your complete disposal for escort to your room.

Based on your review we’d like to take the time for a breakdown on how air conditioning can work in Italy, and more specifically at Hotel Romanico Palace. As was noted in your review, this was not a singular incident that you felt hot in an Italian hotel room, which is correct as the air conditioning system is the same throughout the country-though we beg to differ if it is “awful.”

You were right, there is indeed a controller on how low the air conditioner can be set. This is not a choice of the hotel, though as you will see later, we are in full agreement with this decision. By Italian law public structures are not permitted to have air conditioning below 22 degrees. This law is based on Italy’s concordance with the Kyoto protocol, limiting green house gas emissions. This is a form of pollution that comes from many sources, amongst which air conditioning, leading to global warming-which is by now a scientific fact rather than a theory.

According to this protocol, the countries signed up are responsible for lowering the amount of pollution they cause contributing to global warming. But we stress that as a nation and people Italy believes in this protocol, even if that may mean giving up some luxuries for the sake of preserving the atmosphere. Thus, no one’s air conditioning in Italy may be lower than 22 degrees as it uses much too much energy, causing more emissions. We are sorry if 22 degrees does not give you a sense of coolness, but that is our lowest option.

Our air conditioning is centralized, as it is in the majority of hotels throughout the world, not just Italy. The system models vary in services and functions, and we have made a conscious decision in our choice of air conditioning unit. Not only does our cooling system lower the temperature in the rooms to a standard of 20 degrees (with 2 degrees above or below controlled by the guest), but it also controls the humidity. This system is based on the scientific principle that a state of well-being is supported by combinations of temperature and humidity.

The average person feels their best at 22 degrees, together with a humidity level of 40% making for the standard ideal comfort level. For this reason our rooms are kept at 22 degrees, with the dehumidifier keeping the rate at 40%. So, it is not only temperature, but also humidity is a factor in how you perceive your emotions and bodily functions.
When in the hotel room for repose, these conditions are ideal. However, this is considering the standard person, not taking into account outside factors such as weight problems, health issues, insufficient hydration, if the window had been opened during the stay, rates of food or alcohol consumption, or if the AC unit was on while you were away from your room. But that is why there is a 2 degree variant controllable by the guest.

Coming now to the housekeeping service of our environments we have to admit to be completely stunned by your words, all our Guests seem very pleased with their work and many even leave thank you notes to underline the quality of service received, the cleanliness of our hotel is our greatest pride, this is the first criticism that we receive in this direction.

We get many wonderful comments about our staff and our service and whilst I know your arrival was far from the experience so many of our guests comment on so positively, I do want to assure you that your experience is not indicative of the high standards of service we set for ourselves.

This review got the hotel staff down, we always try to keep care about the guests problems. The 95 % of the guests reviews, containing thanks and compliments, prove our continuous efforts.

Given your experience I understand and recognize that your perception of us have been marred and I would appreciate the opportunity, if you would be amenable, to restore your faith in us.

We hope to see you once more when the weather is more to your taste and thank you for giving us this opportunity to explain our hotel’s air conditioning system.

I would therefore be grateful if you would get in touch with us for your next trip in Rome. I know we can and will meet and exceed your future expectations and just hope you give us the opportunity to do so.

Best regards
Alessandro

The hotel was clean, beds were comfortable, breakfast ok (we were charged 20 euros a day extra) it claims to be sound proofed but do not believe it, the first night the refuse collectors started emptying the bins around 11.30pm and it went on for what seemed like hours, think I had about 2 hours sleep, the next morning we asked if we could be moved but with a shrug and a grin the man on front desk told us if we moved to the other side it would be just as noisy as the air con units were out there and made just as much noise, he then said " look at it as your present from Rome!! Our room was clean but very small, no drawers, no tea/coffee making facilities, and a notice saying you could not bring any food or drink into your room, definately didn't make you want to relax and chill out in your room, in fact the room we stayed in at Manchester airport before we left was so much more superior, would rather have had that. Also if you want a bath in your bathroom make sure you request one, shower was ok but luke warm most of the time.

Dear Flo,

Thanks for your review and for choosing Hotel Romanico Palace!

As much-valued guests, your feedback is really important to us as it helps us to improve the services and facilities that we provide with a timeless passion.

I am very happy that you have enjoyed the quality of our beds and the cleanliness of the room. It is designed to combine decor and accessories with the most functional technology. Unpretentious and elegant paneling framing to the walls the frescoed headboards and furniture carved with incredible artistry by the best Italian cabinetmakers, combined with exclusively tailored fine linen and damask curtains.

My apologies if you had not the opportunity to relax and chill out in your room, I absolutely recognize that mistakes can be made though, “extraordinary” events, and promise to look into this matter with the receptionist as a matter of urgency and priority.

The silence of our rooms usually is exceptional, obtained through the use of soundproofed external walls and quadruple-glazed windows - a privilege which will let you appreciate the convenience of the center without giving up your quietness.

In terms of the room size I can assure you that with 5 different room categories, we do have a room that will tick every box and not only meet but exceed your expectations. It is incredibly important for me that you do return and I hope you will give me the opportunity to show you what we do have to offer.

I’m really sorry for the absence of coffee or tea facilities but unfortunately Italian law doesn’t let to provide this service for security reasons, it seems very strange that you have found worldwide hotel that we allowed to bring outside food and drink, is to the good sense of the people to respect or not that regulation, I do not think are made to "searches or checks".

Despite these circumstances regulations, we are proud to provide in every room free internet wifi, (We are the first hotel in Rome that made this free service), high quality amenities - Made in Italy, Widescreen LED TV, safe, air conditioning and much more..

As you wrote in Manchester you booked a Superior room, instead for the roman holiday perhaps you preferred to choose a category of room less prestigious ( we received a confirmation from a Standard room), or most of the times booking through intermediaries sites is not easy to understand the type of room.

Booking through intermediaries sites is not easy to understand the type of room, the chosen accommodation, there is the lack of clarity. We always encourage our guests to review our room types on the Romanico website prior to booking with us as well as contacting them via e-mail, this will ensure they receive their preferred room type, size, and view.

It is my sincere wish that you will consider us again in future; I know that we are able to not only meet but exceed your expectations and I can only hope that you will give us another opportunity to do so.

Best wishes
Alessandro

Stayed 3 nights at the hotel with my wife and found the location to be safe and within easy walking distance of many of Rome's attractions. Just stroll through the streets and don't worry if you get lost occasionally as you will discover some wonderful architecture and different places to eat.

The hotel roof terrace has fantastic views of Rome, where you can sit relax and enjoy your continental breakfast.

Our room was traditionally decorated and clean and all staff pleasant and courteous.

There was a little noise some nights with other guests checking in or out, but you can have this at any hotel.

Overall a nice place to stay if your looking for a short break in Rome.

Dear Guest,

I am absolutely thrilled to read your lovely review!

Thank you so much for putting pen to paper and describing your Romanico experience so eloquently to others.

The Hotel is is a few minutes away from main sites of interests of Rome, an evening stroll around Via Veneto , a morning visit to Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps are opportunities to surrender to Rome’s endless sensual pleasures: the sight of a thousand shimmering stars, the sounds of music from an outdoor opera, the touch of the breeze blowing across the Tiber, the aroma of freshly baked bread or the taste of delectable Italian cuisine…
Whatever you are doing, wherever you are, your senses will be fully involved.

In our rooms, as in all common areas, blend two styles, the tradition of the eighteenth-century Baroque with contemporary design, perfectly matched by the refined inventiveness of our architect, one of the most popular in Italy.

The rooms which are very romantic and cozy, will give you the whole atmosphere of sweet roman life!

We have a staff truly exceptional, it is always lovely to receive such lovely comments as yours. We constantly endeavor to exceed our guest’s expectations of service and it is always satisfying to hear that these efforts are noticed. I am thrilled that they were friendly and helpful during your time with us. I shall ensure that all of your kind comments and praise are passed on to the team.

It is very important for us that our guests enjoy their stay as much as possible, we therefore pay a lot of attention to every single detail in our hotel: music, fragrance, welcoming note.

From the room the view was great, but nothing to do with the amazing view that you enjoyed every morning from our panoramic roof garden on the seventh floor.

The sun of Rome illuminates its wonders while you savor the delights of a rich buffet, not simply awakening but an experience to be lived intensely.

Our buffet offers a wide variety of products: croissants (directly from the best roman pastry), bakery products, daily muffins, yogurt, cereals and fruits, biologic jam, hot drinks served at the table by the bartender and prepared at the time of the request.

It is served from 07:00 to 10:00 am and for all guest that leave the Hotel before of these hours, we are glad to offer the possibility to request a take away breakfast, there isn’t additional costs.

I invite you to visit the Romanico Palace’s page on Facebook or to click on the magazine in our web site to be kept up dated on latest news.

Thank you again for taking the time to post your review, your feedback is both valued and appreciated and I look forward to welcoming you back.

We stayed at the Hotel Romanico after finishing a cruise, and the package included two nights at Hotel Romanico. We were disappointed. Except for the location, (and it was within walking or short cab distance to most everything), the experience was not great. About 30 of us all showed us via a bus (all pre-arranged by Windstar), and they were not prepared for us -- disorganized, and let everyone of us come up to the desk one by one to tell us a) the room was not ready, and b) we could leave our bags -- but didn't give anyone confidence that our bags would be tagged, safe, or there when we returned.

The continental breakfast is fine, but they charge extra for things like eggs. Cappuccino's were provided for free. The view from the rooftop was very nice.

The room itself was in need up updates and renovation; the bed was terrible. When you leave the room (because you only get one key) any thing you have charging in the outlets is shut off. We were told we couldn't get an extra key, and only when we left it in the wall and left one day to keep things charging did we get a second one -- after a 15 minute wait.

I'd definitely check out other hotels in the area before I'd stay at the Romanico. And, Windstar -- you should put together a better package for your guests.

Dear Guest,

first of all we would like to thank you for sharing your impression of your stay with other travelers. It was a pleasure to have you as our guest!

We are really sorry for the disorganized service provided by the agency, unfortunately we are not able to answer of dynamics that don’t concern us, I suggest to raise the controversy directly with them, our page should be used only for praise or criticism concerning our property.

I am thrilled you enjoyed our buffet breakfast (agreements with Windstar provide an extra charge for the eggs) and especially the location, a fantastic roof garden, where the sun warms you and gives you its good morning, lighting up the breathtaking view of Rome.

Our rooms furnishings are all beautifully designed decorated by a famous Italian Interior Architect. We also base our hotel on the experience that our guests receive by staying with us meaning you are staying in a building that dates back to the 1887.

Considering the standard of our customers ( educated and refined people), for the frescoes we used a technique that gives the wall a background color veiled and shaded, that a you have mistakenly defined ancient and to be renewed.

Each different from the other, our rooms are the result of a skillful combination of love for past and maximum attention to the comfort of modernity (Widescreen LED TV, Wireless internet, Jacuzzi bath).

I’m surprised that you found “horrible” the bed: the mattress is anatomic and orthopedics, it is custom designed to create the perfect foundation for deep, calming sleep, while plush pillows, crisp sheets and a fluffy duvet wrap you in comfort.

The fact that we give you only one key card is for the restriction of our key machine, if we create a double key, the first doesn’t work , however there is a porter 24h that is at your complete disposal for escort to your room.

I suggest to all of our future guests not to reserve through booking services which may not elaborate enough but to take advantage of our website which is elaborate and helpful with clear descriptions of all of our facilities and best of all one can select the special offer which best fits them.

ust to remind, the special offers and specialized packages are only found on our website!

Dear guest, we are looking forward to welcome you in Rome again. Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything else we can assist you.
The entire team is more than delighted to make your next stay more enjoyable and show you that we can meet your expectations.

Best wishes
Alessandro

The Romanico Palace is within walking distance to many attractions and close to the lovely Borghese Park and Via Veneto. The staff were very helpful and the room comfortable. The bathroom was also very good but apparently some other people in our tour said their bathrooms were not great so it would be worth requesting one of the larger bathrooms with a bath at check in. I would certainly come back again!

Room Tip: Request a room with a larger bathroom

I’m so glad to know that Romanico Palace met your expectations and made your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

The hotel’s amazing location in the heart of Rome is indeed well placed for tourism being a stone’s throw away from many major sights and fashionable shopping area.

In a big city like Rome before to choose an hotel is appropriate to inquire about the safety of the area, in our case we can feel very satisfied because around every corner there is a police station and 24-hours surveillance addressed to all embassies located neighbor the hotel.

The Hotel offers to its guest the widest range of rooms, all united by the great comfort, decorated in imperial style and finished in every aspect. The attention to detail and style sets us apart from most of the hotels of the same category in the area.

We always encourage our guests to review our room types on the Romanico website prior to booking with us as well as contacting them via e-mail, this will ensure they receive their preferred room type, size, and view.

Besides perfection, the main aim of our hotel is to ensure that our guests feel both, comfortable and familiar. From the moment you make your reservation to the time of your departure we will provide warm and courteous services.

Especially our employees are taking care of making our guests feel home, far away from home. We are more than delighted to hear that everything was great and to your entire satisfaction.

That is exactly what we are working for and your review makes us proud.

Thank you once again for your visit and your fantastic feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back in Rome for another memorable experience!

Kind regards,
Alessandro
