“Very Apprehensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

We bid on 4* Hotels for a 5 day stay via Priceline and got Hotel Romanico Palace. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor we were very apprehensive, fearing we would wind up in the annex or worse. However we were very pleasantly surprised with the comfort and cleanliness of our room, the professionalism of the staff, specially the breakfast terrace wait staff and the gentleman Latte barista, who remembered our preference from day one. The initial check in at the front desk went smooth and the senior gentleman who helped us was very professional, gave us good tips on dining establishments and sightseeing options. I believe his name is Nikki(not sure of the spelling). Internet service was acceptable considering and worked as well as in other parts we had visited in the previous 4 weeks. The location of the hotel is great, close to many of the major sights in Rome. All in all we would stay here again.

Just spent the weekend here. I was initially a little skeptical over booking in the Annex - however I can now tell that the Annex is no longer an Annex - and that the rooms are now an integrated part of the main hotel. Excellent - spot on - great location, nice rooms, new bathrooms, great staff - and great value for money. The decor is actually really nice - and not tacky as it might appear in the pictures.

Anyone complaining about this hotel had wrong expectations to start with. This is Rome - not Dubai.

Just around the corner you get a great breakfast for less than EUR 10 for 2 people - so anyone who is going to get upset by the classic Italian hotel breakfast can save themselves the headache.

Anyway - this hotel hit the spot with me. I was very impressed with the value for money and would recommend it to any couple looking for a nice hotel without breaking the bank.

We booked a room at the Residenza Luxury in Rome which is next door but due to overbooking(?) we ended up staying here. Pretty sure this hotel is nicer than where we booked so we felt like we got a good deal price wise. Our room was nice, much nicer than your average hotel rooms. Bathrooms were nice with a nice shower (with rain shower and body spray nozzles). Hotel was in a nice clean part of town and not your general touristy part of town (that being said restaurant prices nearby reflected the nicer part of town). The hotel isn't right next to any sights but is around 10 blocks from a metro station.
We did have a problem with breakfast. The actual breakfast was nice but we were told upon check in that breakfast was included, then when we checked out we were told it wasn't and that we had to pay 60 Euro for breakfast (15E per person for each breakfast)! Absolutely an outrageous price!! On top of this they claimed to have a slip we'd signed saying we were okay with paying, turns out it was a slip signed by the breakfast manager who had previously told us our breakfast was included! Quite unprofessional and sketchy in our opinion. We argued until we didn't have to pay it but if you stay here be aware of this as it could end up costing you a lot to eat a glorified continental breakfast.

I really appreciate the time that you have dedicated to write your review.

this means a lot to us and helps us to improve our service!
With regards the Breakfast sometimes could happen that the reservation that the client has differs for the one that the hotel has.

We do apogieze for the misunderstanding and I can gurantee that on your next visit to Rome, please consider the offer of a free upgrade and perhaps we can enjoy an espresso together at our lovely terrace on the roof garden.
From all the staff and I GRAZIE!

The hotel is well located and offers a good breakfast with a very nice rooftop view.
The rooms are ok but the decoration is old and horrible. Too expensive for what it offers...I´m sure that there are better alternatives in Rome.

Thank you for your comments about your stay.
I apperciate your lovely thought regarding our large terrace overlooking the city with its 360° panorama whilst enjoy the great breakfast. That is what i call a very good start of the day!

The Hotel offers a different variety of rooms, each one with a unique layout and design that recalls the Imperial Style, spacious bathrooms with marble and hydro massage Shower or Bathtub. All finished with a particular attention to every details. I personally don't think they are orrible! please have a look on our website and look at the pictures of the hotel.

I thank you again!

We spent 6 days at Hotel Romanico Palace and would have rated hotel good except the truck noise coming from Via Boncompagni at night. The view of the city is from this side of building so it is either noise or view. Can't have both. This road must be a main route for truck traffic into city. If you book be sure to take ear plugs. Staff were friendly and Julian was very helpful. Breakfast sufficient to get you to lunch. Several nice restaurants within three blocks. Room cleaning service excellent. A little pricey but I have stayed in a lot worse.

Room Tip: Rooms on the South side are not quieter. I would not stay in any room smaller than junior suite. AC...

This has been a lovely trip with my husband.... We have been to Rome many times, but this is the best trip ............The staff at the hotel has been exceptional. When we arrived we had a problem with a lost medical device that was a must for my husband....With the help of the staff they worked very hard and had the device returned to the hotel. Our room is very nice with a balcony that over looks the street.....Very clean room. The fire alarm went off and scared everyone..... It was caused by the hot steam from our bath. The staff was on the spot to find the problem, and all went well.
The staff has gone above what is expected to make sure our stay is enjoyable..... Great place to stay ......very safe area...........and you can walk to many famous spots...... lots of good restaurants .
around the corner is a very good snack bar ...........with the best lunch ever..... Every day a new home cooked meal...... This is a wonderful choice for a vacation .............I would like to make a special Thank You to these people on the Staff at Hotel Romanico: Nicola (Front desk manager), Guilio (The Concierge who can arrange anything...including Opera tickets), and of course Alessio (also working the front desk and was instrumental in the return of my medical equipment). Well done Gentlemen!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bath.

the spa is 25 EURO per day per person extra. This is not included. Rooms are tatty. Rooms have mould in them. The first room they put us in had a broken balcony door. I refused to stay in that one becuase obviously it was unsafe in a city. They tried to not move my room. Eventually they moved the room. Both poor standards. NOTHING LIKE HTE PHOTOS. The fire alarm went off one night. We had poeople knocking on our doors another. Staff at reception not very helpful. THe alarm that went off did not set off signal at the reception so we had to go down and tell them the alarm was going off. I wouldnt reccommend staying here. Good location.

Room Tip: from what I was, there were none.

thank you very much for your feedback !
we do apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced.
As you may know each room of the hotel Romanico are different in terms of color marble or furniture.
The Spa is a “ petit” wellness center” where you can relax especially after a long walking day around our fabulous city. It has got a cost but we offer 50% discount for couple.
I always advise to call the hotel and book it in advance!
Regarding the alarm that went off, the reception was aware of the situation. The alarm system is very sensitive in order to guarantee safety at 100%. In the specific case the alarm went off because the vapors of the hot water coming from a bath tub of one room! We knew and didn’t want anyone to panic. I came personally to your room and discuss it with you, we are all trained and know what to do in case of fire!
We thank you again and hope to be at your service for your future trip to Rome
