“Small but comfortable rooms - fantastic location”
Reviewed May 26, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here 4 nights and found it to be a fantastic location - easy to both ancient and modern Rome. One block from the Ottaviano station on Line A makes travel to and from the airport a breeze. Easy walk to Vatican and St Peter's Basillica and longer but doable walk to the Colloseum and ruins. We did it but it was a lot of walking (which we thoroughly enjoyed and would do again). Rooms were small but comfortable enough - we were literally only in them to sleep or to freshen up for dinner. Nice restaurants are very close (one literally a half block down on the same side of the street has good food at very reasonable prices). These are residential condos, so not a big hotel. Elevator was very small for luggage, but worked fine and was quaint and added to the charm. Rooms were very clean. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Room tip: ask for street view room.

Directions to hotel from FCO: buy train ticket to Roma Termini station (14 E) then exit to metro trains. Buy metro ticket (1.5 E) and get on Line A To Biggliotiri (sp) and get off at Ottaviano exit. Exit to Ottaviano St, walk right at intersection toward St Peters (you'll see it in the close distance) and turn right at the next street. MDMA is on the right a couple of doors.

Pros:
- Great location: direct metro line from Termini (main railway station); metro station is 5 min walk; walking distance to Vatican; a lot of restaurants and shops around
- Breakfast is served in the room; you tel them when to serve it to you room
- The rooms are clean; it seems that they have a recent renovation
- Sky TV in the room (although without movies channel-you have to pay for it)
- Tea and coffee making facilities in the room
- Mini bar is included (mineral water and soft drinks, Cola, Fanta, etc.). One negaive - they didn't refilled it during our stay (we stayed for 2 nights)
- Free Wifi in the room
Cons:
- Breakfast: limited choice of food
- Rooms are very small (we took the basic room): there is no space for big suitcases!), if you travel with kids, take the bigger rooms
- If you open a window for fresh air, it is verz loud from the street
- Before you decide to take a shower, pls ask the staff how you can switch it on, it is not easy to find it by yourself
- Elevator, when it stops at the floor, it jumps and it it a kind of scary :)
- Lack of hot water in the bathroom: the hot water was warm, very refreshing if you take the shower :)
Overall:
This Guesthouse is good for a short city break in Rome (mostly for couples without kids); overall it is quite average but in expensive Rome it is a good value for money. Pls note there is no reception as such, when you check in, you get the keys from the entrance doors.

Room Tip: Take bigger rooms

Stayed in MDM Honeymoon suite for 2 nights in March 2012. Room is really fun - lots of space, bathroom lovely and bed massive and comfy. We were also able to sit on the window sill and overlook the people below in the street whilst having a glass of wine which was lovely. The breakfast was plentiful and came at the time we ordered it. Location wise this was great too - we walked everywhere, only getting the metro once. There are nice bars/restaurants close. The disappointing thing was the lack of service - i like to be welcomed to a hotel/B&B but it was very functional with no conversation or hello or welcome to Rome when we checked in. There was also no bin in the room, no toilet roll and the air conditioning wasn't working one night when we got home but there was no one available to ask for help after office hours so we felt a bit stranded. I also asked for non feather pillows but the request wasn't understood so i got extra feather pillows instead. Again, no one to ask when we got home at night. And the 'free' minibar was a couple of bottles of water and some fanta - not really a mini bar in my eyes! The fridge was also not very cold so the bottle of wine we bought didn't chill. All disappointing given the room was pretty expensive and i would therefore have expected some of these niggles to not have been there. So, lovely room but if you like top notch service this is probably not for you.

Perfect hotel for a Rome vacation. Location cannot be any better. 5 min walk to see the Vatican. 2 min walk to the subway. I would go back again. The breakfast is brought to your bed. So good, and only breakfast, but it is good enough until you have a lunch. Small rooms, but very clean. I would go back again.

Having stayed in cheapy hostels as well as expensive top hotels i can say that this ticks many boxes and is great value for money! Young couple, booked the 'luxury rooms'. Ideal, comfy bed, tasty breakfast and relaxing Jacuzzi bath. Very easy to find. We got the shuttle bus from the airport, then the metro which is pretty much round the corner from the hotel. Walked to all the sites, great location close to the Vatican. Would recommend! :)

Room Tip: Luxury rooms were small, but did not feel like a box. Very cosy after a long day walking around the...

Perfect spot for St Peters, metro, and restaurants. Could happily walk to all main attractions. Just returned from a 2 night stay, if staying for more than 2 nights would probably book luxury room. Standard room was small, but fully equipped, after all, we were only in the room to sleep, so many sites to see! This was probably the best sleep we have ever had in a hotel bed, very comfortable. Staff very friendly & helpful. Rooms very clean, & I'm fussy. Visit Tony & Doni's Restaurant just around the corner, full of locals, no menu, just good value lovely food & friendly people, a real experience. As others have said breakfast is good, pre-ordered & delivered to room. Tip - last sunday of the month is free entry to Vatican Museum, saved a fortune, but get there early, or cut in line like we did (totally against my principles, but when in Rome!!) otherwise you will que for 2 hours. Brilliant trip, would return to MDM & Rome.

Room Tip: Ask for courtyard room for total peace & quiet.

We spent three days in MDM Luxury Rooms and will definitely be back soon. Very beaurtiful room and bathroom, very clean, staff very friendly, only a 4-minutes-walk away from St. Peter's, 2 minutes to the next underground station.
