What's not to love about this hotel? It's very close to the Vatican as well as metro lines. There is a really great patio that has a retractable awning for breakfast on rainy mornings, and the staff is so very nice! My room had a lovely little kitchenette, and a very nice bathroom in addition to two beds and some sort of loft with an additional bed. (but i did not climb up there because there was no ladder.) My room was right on the patio, so it got a little noisy when large groups passed through, but other than that, this was a wonderful experience.

Staying at the Residence is not cheap but the cost is normal for Rome. Unlike many similarly-priced hotels in Rome, however, it *does* actually provide great value!

The room-apartment we rented had 2 massive fully-furnished double bedrooms (with quirky wall-sized mirrors behind the bed!), two large bathrooms (one en-suite), a small living room and a kitchen with oven, fridge, kettle, microwave oven, etc.
The cot bed was provided at an extra cost of 5 euro per night.

All the staff (reception and cleaners) were very polite and helpful - I cannot
stress this enough.
We were allowed to leave our bags at the hotel after check-out and were
also given use of a room to change our baby some hours after checking out.

The location, via Candia, is a busy commerical street next to one of the largest markets in Rome so the traffic can be a bit bothersome and starts from the early hours. We were on the 1st floor; possibly those on the higher floors would have been less affected by this.

The immediate surroundings are residential middle class so there's plenty of choice if you want to self-cater (great bakeries, supermarkets, etc.).
There are also a number of small restaurants that provide Roman cuisine, much
better than the tourist traps closer to the Vatican.

The Vatican and Castel S. Angelo are very close-by. For the centre of Rome, you would need to take the metro to Spagna or Barberini (line A). The closest metro stations to the Residence are Cipro (5 min away and it also has a lift to the platform!) and Ottaviano (a bit further away in the direction of the Vatican).

Wifi is provided free but only seemed to work reliably in the living room/corridor area and not from the bedrooms.

I would probably check availability/prices at the Residence Candia as first port of call next time we pass through Rome.

Room Tip: Higher floors may be better if you are sensitive to street noise

We booked one of the suite/appartment, which didn't look like the pictures, it was small without any living room area and a tiny shower which even I being petite had problems. Regardless that it was clean, kitchen fully equipped, good size bedroom, comfortable bed and air conditioner. Close to Vatican Museum, supermarkets , metro y to the best Gelateria 'old bridge'. Be aware the wifi connection is not stable specially in the evenings.

Room Tip: Talk to the front desk and the girl at reception would help you, she is bery friendly and helpful.

The rating may be very good but depending which room you have...I was here in april 2013, I booked 2 rooms but when we arrive we get 2 very very small rooms (10 mp) but after a discussion with receptionist, we moved in 2 very nice rooms. Kichinette, clean, nice terrace on the roof and very close to Vatican.

Residence Candia will always have a place in my heart. I stayed there for 3 weeks while I was studying abroad. I didn't know anyone when i first arrived, but I quickly felt welcomed. The rooms are ideal for learning how to immerse yourself into Italian culture. There is (at least for me) a room in the back with beds and a bathroom. Before that, you had a livingroom/kitchen area. It had everything you needed to go to the market that is nearby and buy fresh items to make incredible meals. My personal favorite was the little terrace/deck area in the front.

This is not like a hotel that you would go to and ask for room service. This is a home away from home. They will clean the area, but you may find yourself in the "room" more than you would at other places.

Residence Candia is very close to all the tourist attractions. Simply walking up or down a few steps will take you to the Vatican wall. You really can't beat the location. I found that you would hear traffic and you'll always hear emergency vehicles sirens, but you quickly get used to that. It didn't bother my sleep.

The beds are firm but very comfortable. I found it to be a perfect place to learn what Rome is really about - food and friends

Room Tip: I liked my room which was on higher ground.

I was truly humbled by the warmth and generosity of Elena and the staff . My 4 night stay at Candia was entirely pleasant and worthy of a hugely complimentary review of itself. However, it was what happened afer I left that will leave me with the fondest memories. I realised after I left Italy that I had left a significant amount of cash (in different currencies) in the room. Candia went to every effort to arrange to have the entirety of the money converted and returned to me, despite me not making it too easy for them. The intergrity, warmth and consideration was truly touching and I would recommend this place to anyone :) Grazie Candia!! William

We just returned from our 3 night stay in Rome at the Residence Candia, and had a decent experience, although not the best. We had a very difficult time locating our room, as they were numbered very differently. There are three rooms on each floor, and unfortunately, ours was situated between two foreign families who apparently lived at this apartment complex, and would let there twelve or so kids (no exaggeration) run around the hallways screaming at all hours of the night. You could hear them from the main floor (and we were three floors up) but the front desk did nothing about this. We had a hard time sleeping every night due to the noise from them, as well as the noise from an outside restaurant with screaming people. Long story short: the walls are paper thin. The good thing about this hotel, was the size of the rooms. There are two bathrooms, as well as very many beds, and a kitchen. This was very nice as we have a family of four, and really enjoyed the space. The neighborhood was OK at best, safe in the day time, but we felt a little nervous walking back at night. Lots of graffiti in the area. It was a very short walk to the Vatican and Castel Sant' Angelo which made it worth it. Parking was good, your car is located in a gated area that is watched by video cameras which made us feel safer about parking our car in this area. Overall, would have liked the hotel much more if it were more quiet. Don't stay here if you're looking for peace and quiet, but do stay here if you want to be close to the metro, as well as the Vatican.

Room Tip: Word of advice- stray away from staying on the third floor. And if possible, get a room that is not...
